It's official, 33rd st Path is not running tonight. This should be fun. Reminds me on Sandy aftermath all over again!

If the problem is in Chelsea, there is no way that only the JSQ train should be affected. And there is no reason that a repair should take so long. What they have done is cut the frequency of trains by 50% by canceling the JSQ train. They would finish a lot faster if they stopped both lines. Or, they could cut the number of trains on each line by 50%, but that would inconvenience the riders from Hoboken. As usual, JC is getting screwed. And the travelers on NJ Transit trains terminating in Hoboken are getting preferential treatment. Like they do every day.

From PATH Alert:

Train service on the JSQ-33rd line & HOB-33rd line is suspended indefinitely

Don't forget he is running for nomination from the Republican Party - they have no interest in infrastructure that helps urban areas - especially where such infrastructure needs an infusion of public funds, which would take away from tax-breaks and other giveaways to their suburban and rural base - if not actual hostility to the needs of diverse, urban areas. The failure of PATH would be good incentive for the Republicans to push for dismantling any subsidized mass transit that benefits cities altogether.

One of the most unfortunate political realities of modern times is the split between Republicans and Democrats on mass transit/rail service. And I'm absolutely not willing to blame Republicans solely for this, especially as Democrats would happily tax drivers and cut road constructions to try to force people onto mass transit. Just another obnoxious culture war that results in everyone losing. Intelligent people realize that we need BOTH mass transit and good road infrastructure.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like the 33rd-JSQ line won't be up and running to at least tomorrow's rush hour, so it looks like we'll have to find other means of getting home tonight:

asny10011 - NJT Bus 126 runs from PABT to Hamilton Park during the evening commute, but check the timetable. Most services only go as far as Hoboken Terminal, so be sure to get on one that terminates at Hamilton Park. Probably be a lot faster to just take WTC PATH or the ferry to Paulus Hook though. Good luck!

Are you trying to avoide the WTC PATH, or the Financial District altogether? If it's just the WTC PATH you're trying to steer clear of, take the subway down to the WFC and Ferry it to Paulus Hook

Is NY Waterway running extra service today? Say, going to Midtown/39th during the day? I can't find any info to that effect.

This is, once again, insane. Does "indefinitely" mean a day, a week, a month?

That line in the CBS piece ? officials aren't sure if the problem is related to Sunday's fire ? is beyond rich.

This is my favorite news quote so far:

"Port Authority officials aren't sure if Tuesday?s problems are also related to the fire, WCBS 880?s Peter Haskell reported."

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/09/2 ... en-jersey-city-suspended/

Aren't Port Authority officials the ones who should know? WTF is going on?!

(Also, re: cross-honoring - I've found it generally works to show the conductor the PATH tweet or alert on my phone that says NJTransit and/or NYWaterway is cross-honoring.)

No, I don't. I commute to midtown about 3 times a week, so yes, for me, it'll be a lot less painful. However, at the rate it is going, the PA is not going to do anything. We will continue to live with this sh*tty PATH for all eternity, for all we know.

However, if it means a painful year of alternatives could bring a much better system, I'm willing to suffer. We survived 9/11 and Sandy without PATH (yes, I know, both are different scenarios, but the example is to show that as humans, we can adjust and adopt).

Suspended indefinitely?!

!#*!*!*!???

The cross-honoring thing is B.S.

Tried to do this on the bus yesterday, and the driver had never heard of such a thing.

The Port Authority needs to be entirely dissolved. There needs to be one unified transportation authority for the entire region -- like every....other...city...in...the....world.

The PA does have nerve to get caught in a national scandle where they shut a Major bridge down to make commuters lives a living hell, THEN reduced service on the PATH to WTC on the weekends, THEN increase the PATH fare.

But they know that no one can do anything about it. Was there any repercussions the PA faced after any of this? No. And no politician dares to raise as issue about it. Only commuters are effected.

If the 7 train or any other MTA line crossed the Hudson, it would finally bring some competition to an incompetent corporation. And only then might things change. Without kick back or competition, what would the PA ever gain by listening to its customers?

NJT is cross honoring PATH ticket holders via Bus and Rail

I often hear this when PATH service is suspended. How exactly does this work? Are they saying I can just get on a bus or train, flash my SmartLink card, and ride for "free"?

I really don't trust this.

I tried doing this on a NJT bus once when the path was down. The driver had no idea what I was talking about. Eventually he let me sit down without paying. It's a bit awkward.

After Hurricane Sandy they were cross honoring but the bus drivers didn't know about it then either. I had a bus pass so it wasn't a problem but my boyfriend had issues with flashing the path card.

At JSQ this morning they were telling me that MTA was honoring path cards at the World Trade Center E train. That wasn't the case. Having NJ Transit cross honor doesn't do any good when they can't get you anywhere near where your office is. I work 1/2 a block from the 23rd Street PATH and have no need for a metrocard. Having to scrounge up more money to commute is frustrating as well along with the extra time it's taking to get to work. Even leaving 30 minutes early today, I was still late to work.
