Your first step to getting your 'No Parking' painted is to contact the Zoning Dept. first & then the Evil Empire.....oops.....I mean the Parking Authority will do the painting. One more thing, those diagonal lines mean nothing. They are just a curtesy. A car is legally parked as long as it doesn't break the curb cut. Good luck.

The city will paint no parking across your driveway in the street
with a diagonal stripe on both sides of it. I had it done about a year ago. It was $35.00 and well worth it. Before, the signs I had on the gate were ignored.

Tried the parking sign bit, promptly ripped down in less than a month. What is wrong with people?

Put a sign up, and so far it has worked like a champ. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

My personal favorite was the asswipe trying to justify his ILLEGAL driveway by explaining he was ADDING spaces to the street by not parking his cars on the street.

As discussed in other legal/illegal driveway thread, if you suspect your driveway is illegal, you can mitigate it by putting a cut-out of a cardboard cop in front of it. Problem solved.

Blockage of all or any part of the sidewalk is prohibited. But if it is as bad as you say, call the Parking Authority from 6am to 10:30-11pm or the non emergency police number.

Call Zoning. But be forewarned that if the driveway, legal or not, has been there for awhile you may not succeed in getting everything put back the way it was. Now it may be a different story if is obvious that it is a newly installed driveway. If your neighbor is in the process of making himself a driveway then call the police.

Here's another, similar, question - there are a few houses in my neighborhood that have cars in their driveways, chronically blocking the sidewalk to the point that you have to step out into the street to go around. I might not normally complain, but these streets tend to have a lot of traffic. Do we have the same recourse (i.e., should I call the parking authority)?

How can you find out if someone's driveway is legal, by the way?

If your driveway is legal, call the Parking Authority and ask them to have the "No Parking" sign painted in the street in front of your curb. You will then send them a check for the cost. I think it's around $25.

The sign is probably the best advice. Think you can get the offender towed if you're blocked out of your driveway - best you can hope for is getting the car ticketed if you're blocked in.

Thanks for the tip. I'm also wondering if there is a way to get the curbs painted yellow (can we just do it?) so people parking know not to park there? I'm sure it wouldn't matter, the parking over here is dodgy to say the least. My welcome to the neighborhood when we were having some work done in our driveway and I had to park on the street briefly was a car running over the curb to take my spot. Other than that, the neighbors have been cool.

Welcome to the neighborhood, I have had this happen to me a few times. During working hours 9-5 you can call the parking authority, if its after hours call the non emergency number. The Parking Authority shows up but usually within an hour and both times the cars that were blocking the owners returned and moved before the PA actually showed up, the police dept has showed up after hours very quickly.
The police will wait for the driver to come back and then issue a ticket. Also I invested in a "No Parking" sign from Home Depot and that has help a lot. Good Luck!

Well, we are here in Greenville just over a week and finally settled in. Our block is pretty quiet here (besides July 4th), but I have a question for home owners with a driveway. If someone is blocking your driveway, what kind of recourse do you have? I've had multiple incidents of vehicles partially blocking my driveway because they wanted to squeeze in a spot too small for their car. I've been able to get out, but I don't want to have this happen all the time. I have some thoughts, but not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be welcome.
