Yes it is the 6th boro. Yes, it is also the 21eme arrondissement. Yes, that means it has two government jobs, so I guess underneath it all it is just New Jersey.

That's like being the tallest midget. Nothing beats getting an award no one wants. JC certainly doesn't. Fulop might because he thinks it helps market his leap pad term as mayor-soon-to-be-governor.

If Jersey City is NYC "6th Borough", having lived here for 6 years I would hazard it would come after Queens, but before the Bronx and Staten Island, in relative "coolness".
Everything within a certain radius of Manhattan is in it's orbit, and compared to it - JC is no exception.

I would think Hoboken would be Six and JC would be Seven?
Or maybe Weehawken can be Eight? I feel West New York would be a better a candidate for Sixth Borough since it already has New York in the name. We know NYCers don't want anything with Jersey in the name having any association with their city.

If New York had to pick a 6th borough (or find a replacement for Staten Island if they ever secede), where would it be? A classic pick is Philadelphia, and more recently there's been CRAZY TALK of Cleveland, Ohio becoming a destination for priced-out New Yorkers. In fact, we received many personal messages from ex-New Yorkers living over there, singing its praises as the nation's "best kept secret." Before Cleveland, there was talk of Jersey City, Atlanta, and even Yonkers as being contenders for the coveted title?they've all garnered press as the latest migration trend (as have the suburbs, and Kansas City). So, if we're going to extend a prestigious 6th Borough title upon one of them, which should it be? Here are the results... What city should be NYC's 6th Borough? (Poll Closed) Philadelphia 20.7% (225 votes) Jersey City 51.24% (557 votes) Yonkers 16.65% (181 votes) Cleveland 11.41% (124 votes) Total Votes: 1,087 I think non JC residents also see JC as the 6th.

Ugh, I've said it before and I'll say it again: the term "sixth borough" is used by people who have an inferiority complex about living in NJ and need to justify that Jersey City is cool enough to live to themselves and their friends.

Is Jersey City really the "Sixth Borough?" The city picked up the nickname for its proximity to New York City and its close relationship with its sister city. After all, thousands of Jersey City and Hudson County residents commute across the Hudson every day for business or pleasure, and the two cities have undeniably established constant cross-cultural exchange.
