I wonder what about this case is being being kept from the public? The two Mixson brothers are being tried together for two separate murders so they must be connected. Both murders were a week or so apart and the brothers are connected to the Hoover 52 Crips, from Booker T a known Hoover 52 Crip strong hold. The second murder was committed on May 2nd what is known as a "Hood Day" for that set because May is the 5th month and it is on the 2nd day (5/2=52). It is like a gang holiday for them.
The same set is one of the gangs involved in the current gang war.

The second annual basketball tournament to honor a popular 25-year-old man who was gunned down after coming to the defense of a woman in 2014 is set for next weekend.
Darren "Reese" Talington, who had just passed his physical exam to join the Jersey City Fire Department, was shot several times outside A-Plus Deli on Grove Street on April 26, 2014. A man -- later identified as Sammy K. Mixson, 32 -- entered the store and hit a woman in the face. Talington confronted the man and the two stepped outside, where Talington was killed. On June 11, the Darren "Reese" Talington Classic will be held, beginning at 9 a.m., at Bayside Park. Talington was passionate about the sport and played for Snyder High School. Free health screenings, community organization tables and music will also be featured at the event. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... y.html#incart_river_index

Sammy K. Mixson, 31, is charged with murdering Darren "Reese" Talington, 25, of Jersey City outside the now-closed A-Plus Deli near the Grove Street PATH Station on April 26, 2014, officials said.
A clerk at the deli told The Jersey Journal that Talington was in the store when a man who appeared drunk entered and hit a woman with a beer bottle. Talington confronted the man and the two stepped outside. It is alleged that Sammy Mixson intervened in the scuffle, fatally shooting Talington several times. Story

Google this piece of shit. Drug slinging conviction in 2001, shot a nine year old and an eleven year old in a playground in 2003, was tried for murder in 2009, aggravated assault in 2011 and now another murder charge in 2014.
Bravo NJ justice system. Can't wait to see who this scumbag murders next after his inevitable acquittal...

They got him!
A Jersey City felon was arrested at his brother's bail hearing and charged with the April 26 murder of a man coming to the aid of a woman in a Downtown deli, officials said. Sammy K. Mixson, 31, was indicted Nov. 12 on the charge of murdering Darren "Reese" Talington, 25, of Jersey City outside the A-Plus Deli near the Grove Street PATH Station, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said today. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... wn_deli.html#incart_river

Wow, no arrest yet. Time for a new investigative team.
After seeing the video, it occurs to me that the Black dude in the biker vest knows who shot Tallington. Why no full court press on him? Why not release his name? Surely, investigators know his (the Black dude in the biker vest) name, right? Someone within the Newark Knights biker organization does, I'll bet. Just ride West on Springfield Avenue on a Saturday, only spot in the tri state I've seen that has an all Black biker club sporting scores of Harley Davidson motorcycles in front of its clubhouse. Somebody knows him.

By Michaelangelo Conte | The Jersey Journal on October 19, 2014 at 6:55 PM, updated October 19, 2014 at 7:49 PM A Jersey City man who was fatally shot after coming to the aid of a customer in a Downtown deli now has a $4,000 gravestone thanks to a few Hudson County notables and the monument maker who built the marker. ?We try to do our part and help the community out and it was a tragic thing that happened to this poor kid,? said John Burns of Burns Brothers Monuments in Jersey City of the April 26 murder of Darren Talington, 25, outside a deli on Grove Street. I don't understand the prosecutor - there is NOTHING in this video that the general public could see that could possibly identify anyone. If you're a witness to this murder and you didn't come forward yet (to do the right thing) does the prosecutor honestly think they'll ever come forward?
Something isn't right here. My condolences to his very sweet brother - his loss is heartbreaking.

CBS 2 Exclusive: Prosecutors Hope Video Will Solve April Murder In Jersey City Darren Talington Was Shot And Killed While Trying To Help Stranger, Family Says

CBS 2 New York
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) ? Prosecutors on Thursday hoped a surveillance video released exclusively to CBS 2 would help solve the murder of a man who tried to help a stranger in Jersey City back in April.
As Christine Sloan reported Thursday, CBS 2 has blurred the faces of more than a dozen people in the surveillance video, because they could all be witnesses to a murder.
In the video taken in late April, a man is seen violently pushing down a woman, and then Darren Talington, 25 ? seen wearing a blue jacket ? is seen stepping in to try to stop the attack on the woman.
CBS 2 showed Talington?s face in the video, because seconds after walking out of the A-Plus Deli on fashionable Grove Street near Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City, Talington was shot.
He died in an area hospital with his brother by his side on Saturday, April 26.
?It?s tough to watch him, you know ? and especially to help someone you don?t know, you never met ? you know, he just went in to try to intervene, which he did,? said Talington?s brother, Gregory Allen. ?And he lost his life doing it ? doing the right thing.?
Talington had an infectious smile, and everyone seemed to love him. In high school, he was crowned prom king, and ?The King? would be the nickname that would stick through him throughout his 20s.
Talington studied special education in college, but he really wanted to be a firefighter like his big brother. At his funeral, the Jersey City Fire Department honored Talington with a badge and a helmet.
?He always said he didn?t want to make me disappointed in him, and he didn?t,? Allen said.

Wow. STILL no arrest? No statement(s) from either the Mayor's office or the Director of Public Safety as to the investigation? I fully expected that this would be a slam dunk.
Eerily silent. Hopefully, some progress has been made.

When the New Jersey Spartans line up for tomorrow?s pivotal showdown with the Levittown Rebels, three members of the team will be playing with heavy hearts.
Jersey City residents Kevin Brown, Rashad Hector and Jorge Velazquez ? members of the semipro football team? will honor their friend Darren ?Reese? Talington,? the 25-year-old Jersey City man fatally shot while defending a woman outside a Downtown deli two weeks ago, during a halftime ceremony today. The three football players knew Talington since they were kids, said Velazquez, who graduated from Lincoln High School in 2008. Both Brown and Hector were football players at Snyder High School, where Talington attended and played basketball. ?It?s very emotional,? said Velazquez. ?This is the first game that I?m about to play (since his death).? Could be a case of a storeowner being intimidated or just plain scared because, obviously, the gang members would know where to find him. Perhaps other witnesses are adhering to the "no snitching" policy?

You see this sort of thing all the time on TV crime and police dramas - where they have a good lead on a suspect, but not enough of a case to make the charge stick or keep the perp from fleeing.

As is stated in the Jersey Journal: "Mixson is not stranger to law enforcement. In 2008 he was the driver in a hit-and-run in which he dragged a boy 70 feet. What was he a king of? I am starting to see graffiti around town "Rest in peace King Reese" This is starting to have the smell of gangs... When you are shot multiple times on the street, the perp definitely wants you dead, if they wanted to send out a warning they shoot you once in the foot and flee.

Right, the sanctity of the investigation is paramount, I do agree but uh, can there at least be a statement made by Director Shea and/or the Mayor? Just a simple "we're on it" will do. There is no apparent sense of urgency. At least, nothing in the press. But then again, the same silence was heard before apprehending the infamous Muchioki/Haqq murderers. Took 'em a week or two, they said nothing and then BAM! They announced the arrest of that chump change punk Shiquan Bellamy.

I get the fact that the police are reluctant to release any info that may compromise ongoing investigations. They have to balance that with the public speculation and fear that breeds - and in particular the speculation that there is some kind of gang war being fought on downtown streets. We deserve better answers.

I'd have to go back to the articles I read, but over the course of a few days from the time the shooting occurred on Grove Street to the arrest of Mixson, a poster was leaving comments on the three stories impacting JC (the Grove Street shooting; the hanging; the arrest of Mixson). Listen, you take NJ.com posters with a grain of salt, but this is some of what was written by poster Dinah_Brand:
Don't EVER expect to read the full story on "the king" or what led to his murder. Too many political connections. I still think it's odd that according to Facebook, Zabasearch and Whitepages, there was no such person in New Jersey. On the "parent's" page, quite a few people were listed but no Darren Talington. Very strange.
