You already have access to electronic databses through the library.

The system certainly needs more funding, the main branch is dilapidated and in poor shape for a city the size of JC.

Or, the solution could be providing subscriptions to electronic databases, like the kind we used for research in college and grad school.

I work for a small market data company in Jersey City. If someone from the Jersey City Public library would want a market data terminal for the library, I'll be able to get a few login's for no cost. We are a couple of steps below Bloomberg but we can suffice for most people. PM me here and I will arrange it.

Does hero69 intend to make a charitable contribution so this can happen?

In addition to upfront costs, a bloomberg terminal requires a lot of training. This would be a HUGE waste of money.

I don't think the typical user of a Bloomberg terminal fits the profile of a public library patron. This move would not make any sense...

Uh... no. Bloomberg terminals are for financial professionals who need to see prices in real time. The only "discount" is $20k for organizations that use more than 1 terminal.

also, maybe there should be a branch focused on the arts? and one on sports!

While that would be wonderful, it is not going to happen. The city just doesn't have the budget for it.

One Bloomberg terminal costs at least $24,000 a year.

I'm sure the JCPL can find a much better use for that kind of dinero.

other data services.

With more and more sophisticated people moving to JC, I think the library could stand to be upgraded. I love the magazine selection and I think its great they have many computer terminals, but I think they could probably make the space more efficient and 2014 as opposed to 1994.

thoughts! maybe a new business, science and industry library near harborside funded by one of great companies down there
