I called the J.C.I.A. security answered the emergency extension. They said garbage collection was on for the Heights and where ever else for Monday night into the Tuesday schedule.
I'd just like to know if garbage pick up is on tonight. Apparently it was cancelled on Thursday, 2/13 but it didn't stop people from putting trash out (and some idiot on my street thought it was a good idea to throw out a sofa and love seat. They are still out there, too).
To be honest, all I wanted to know if it was ok to drive around the City to run some non-essential errands, or whether the City still wanted folks to stay off the roads while they salted, removed ice/snow piles, etc. There is still plenty of ice on the side streets downtown.
And yes, I've been helping neighbors throughout, digging out cars, clearing ice from drains, in addition to keeping my sidewalk, gutters and fire hydrant clear.
IMO, the City can and should do better communicating to it's residents.

Regular trash pick-ups will continue, but street sweeping and alternate side parking remain suspended. Police and Fire will remain open and on duty.

As another storm barrels our way, the City would like to remind Residents that in order for the Snow Crews to clear streets in the most efficient manner possible, we all have to pull together.
Therefore, residents are reminded that while under City Ordinance they must clear their walks of snow, they must NOT, according to City Ordinance, toss that snow into the street. Doing so only hampers the plows and makes the streets more dangerous.
Residents should pile snow from sidewalks and from digging out their cars along the curb line.
Residents are also reminded to NOT park within 25 feet of an intersection. Residents should NOT double park, even for a few minutes, as well.
Both of these block the passage of emergency vehicles, snow plows, or snow crews from clearing streets and intersections.
Anyone who is parked improperly could be ticketed and towed. Alternate side parking regulations remain suspended until further notice.

Mayor Steven M. Fulop has announced that the city will file suit against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for $400 million for missed tax payments and undue economic harm caused to the taxpayers of Jersey City by the bi-state transportation agency.
?This legal action is the result of economic damages caused by the Port Authority?s unfair and outdated tax agreements with the City that has resulted in the loss of hundreds of millions of tax dollars over several decades,? said Mayor Fulop. ?The Port Authority has repeatedly failed to fulfill their legal obligations which has caused a severe negative impact on the Jersey City taxpayers."

Sure, Sandy was worse. But it's a fair comparison since both were State of Emergencies and should be treated as such.
I can't speak for other parts of NJ or even other parts of JC besides downtown but downtown is completely fine. Yes, there are sidewalks that are not shoveled. There are roads that could use more salt - but definitely not to the point where you can't drive on them. It was 34 degrees today and 30 right now. I see people running outside. Can we all just collectively grow a pair? At least in DTJC, there is no emergency...
If the state declares a SOE, it's the city's responsibility to report it on the city website. Can't get around that.
And the city sent out emails yesterday in addition to updating it's FB page. Sure it sucks all the snow and ice, but bitching that the city hasn't updated it's website is pointless. Perhaps there is no new news. Get off here and go buy groceries for a homebound neighbor or shovel someone's walk. Ok if you aren't Dan. 1. The lesson from Sandy was multiple communication channels needed to stay open. Not just a one page update. 2. Even a once-per-day update during an "emergency", isn't good enough. 3. I'm not Dan. Update Feb 12, 2014, 8:00 p.m.Municipal Offices will be closed tomorrow, 2/13, due to the snow storm, however public safety & snow removal operations will be fully staffed. The Resident Response Center will be open to take calls for any concerns at 201-547-4900.
Street sweeping and alternate side parking remain suspended.
Update Feb 12, 2014, 6:00 p.m. Today, Jersey City Incinerator Authority crews spread liquid brine on all main streets and hills and as many secondary streets as possible. The JCIA has 18,000 gallons liquid salt brine which contains anti icing agent on hand.
The JCIA will have 50 pieces of equipment (plows and spreaders) out to clear roads and will use the rock salt that is available for hills, main streets, and secondary streets where possible.
Residents are reminded to please not double park or park on corners as it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles and plows to get down streets.
Regular trash pick-ups will continue, but street sweeping and alternate side parking remain suspended. Police and Fire will remain open and on duty.
In addition, tenants are reminded that the Heat Ordinance is in effect. All employers and landlords must provide heat to a temperature of not less than 70 degrees Fahrenheit from 6am to 11pm or during regular working hours.

Another Winter Storm Moves Jersey City's Way With Possible Snow Wed., 2/12 Into Thurs., 2/13; Residents! No Shoveling of Snow Into Plowed Streets; No Parking Near Intersections!
As another storm barrels our way, the City would like to remind Residents that in order for the Snow Crews to clear streets in the most efficient manner possible, we all have to pull together.
Therefore, residents are reminded that while under City Ordinance they must clear their walks of snow, they must NOT, according to City Ordinance, toss that snow into the street. Doing so only hampers the plows and makes the streets more dangerous.
Residents should pile snow from sidewalks and from digging out their cars along the curb line.
Residents are also reminded to NOT park within 25 feet of an intersection. Residents should NOT double park, even for a few minutes, as well.
Both of these block the passage of emergency vehicles, snow plows, or snow crews from clearing streets and intersections.
Anyone who is parked improperly could be ticketed and towed. Alternate side parking regulations remain suspended until further notice.

Jersey City Sues Port Authority For 400 Million In Missed Payments
Mayor Steven M. Fulop has announced that the city will file suit against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for $400 million for missed tax payments and undue economic harm caused to the taxpayers of Jersey City by the bi-state transportation agency.
?This legal action is the result of economic damages caused by the Port Authority?s unfair and outdated tax agreements with the City that has resulted in the loss of hundreds of millions of tax dollars over several decades,? said Mayor Fulop. ?The Port Authority has repeatedly failed to fulfill their legal obligations which has caused a severe negative impact on the Jersey City taxpayers."
