The numbers I've seen indicate less than 3 percent, but that's not a real percentage because it includes workers who receive tips that generally take them well over minimum wage in reality. The dollar number I gave included all food programs; the SNAP numbers alone will come in around 85 billion alone for 2013.

Only 1% of workers earn minimum wage, and many of those are teens. Raising the minimum wage won't lift anyone out of poverty when it's all said and done. It's actually closer to 5% http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2013/ted_20130325.htm Your 100 billion figure also appears to be off (though I don't disagree with your overall point that food stamp spending rose considerably in the last several years--kind of mirrors the poverty stats). Food stamp funding went up with ARRA and much of this addition expired Nov 1.

It's good to know that I'm on the winning side of the argument. I'm very hopeful.
Minimum wage a winning issue for Democrats http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-sh ... 3734?cid=eml_mra_20140131

Mark my words, there will be no fallout for either Christie, or the Republican party. Christie will continue to build his reputation showing he can stand up to "special interests" - labor unions, Democratic calls for raising the minimum wage, etc. An entire plank in the Republic party platform related to economic growth calls for cutting the estate tax, the capital gains tax, and the AMT; and the conservative faction is gaining ground in "right to work" (i.e., union busting) states. The Republican Party had no interest in revisting historical policies that bolstered the middle class between WWII and the late 1970's - higher top tax rate, strong organized labor, strong restrictions on Wall Street's practices. And progressives need a reminder the continuing stagnation of working and middle class wages, dwindling opportunities, have been going on under both parties since the Clinton Administration.

Only in looneyland could Big Boy have gotten away with it for so long. The question is what the toll will be on the Republican Party?

lol, Christie isn't quoted, and a PA person says it needs to be looked into equals 'drop dead'?

Is anyone surprised by this? Christie has been all about the rich since he's taken office.
