Myself, as a dapper gay man I wander about the Heights in a blazer, pocket square, and polka-dot socks (all from H&M or thrift shops, having "not-so-much"...) which back in the day would definately have drawn unwanted attention in form of a beat-down.

Unless we have a photo of the perps, so we could call the cops if we see them, speculating about whether they are [fill in race of your choice here] isn't asking the questions we need to be asking to deal with crime in our community.

Range Rover Sport is my dream car so should I stop dreaming for fear of being carjacked once my dream has turned into reality? Or a prerequisite is to be legally "packing heat" pre getting the rover?

This did happen several years ago. Range Rovers, BMWs and Mercedes were stolen out of the garages. Security was tightened in all the garages, you can't get into most of the garages without a security pass or unless the attendants buzz you in.

Time to be suspect of strangers. Like your parents said to you growing up...beware of strangers ! Start to know your neighbors especially the ones who rent. Becoming familar with people in your surroundings will help weed out who doesn't belong.

carjacked a luxury SUV from a 70-year-old Kinnelon man as he was unloading groceries in front of a Jersey City home Saturday, Jersey City police said. The man told police that his Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE was running on Terrace Avenue near Bleecker Street when two men attacked him. One man grabbed him from behind and the other man yelled "Get his key!" according to a police report, which noted that the second assailant went through the man's pockets and took the key. The incident happened one day before a Hoboken man was shot dead in a carjacking of his Land Rover in the parking deck of the Mall at Short Hills in Millburn. Earlier today a Land Rover was carjacked from a home in South Orange. One of the men fled north on Terrace Avenue in a black or dark green Jeep Cherokee SUV and the other man fled south on Terrace Avenue in the 70-year-old's Range Rover, police said. A woman who lives on Terrace Avenue yelled at the men, but did not get a good enough look to identify either one. The victim, who suffered minor abrasions on his face, said he could not identify the attackers either, as one of them grabbed him across the eyes, police said. The Kinnelon man told police was dropping off the groceries at a home on Terrace Avenue. The man was treated for his injuries at the scene.
