I stayed there a couple days when moving. I have no complaints: clean, safe, convenient.

As for brownstone apartments, you might want to check with http://www.nyc-jc.com/ . They have highrise as well as brownstone apts and seem legit. Never used them but spoke to them in the office on Brunswick and Columbus. Owners are Norwegian/Icelandic and they cater to Scandinavian tourists, among others.

It's an amazing restored apartment that sleeps 4 in two bedrooms. You have a full functioning kitchen so they can make there own meals. It's a nice alternative to a hotel. I forget the rates but it was very comparatively to the hotels. The place is super over the top in restoration and furnishing.

Is this area zoned for hospitality use? Is the city's health department and other inspection agencies involved to make sure everything is up to code. Strange that this place is not on the map or radar for the general public. I also hear the other cities with these "accommodations" are cracking down on their existence.

Just to comment about the thought about the keys being copied. There are no keys it's an electronic card access just like a hotel where they change the access every time there is a new renter. Good luck.

Thanks everyone - your feedback was really helpful. Totally agree about the Hyatt, too. Pretty amazed at the high rates for most downtown JC hotels - yeesh. Forgot about the Ramada - didn't know it was still there.

The brownstone on Homeaway was gorgeous, but booked for the days they'll be here. I looked on Airbnb too, but wasn't too comfortable with the setup - looked like too many variables for security issues. Comments from a Philly renter talked about security concerns with the apt. rental concept - particularly that the home's keys could be copied so easily and used for a break in, which is how he suspects all of his valuables were stolen during a stay.

Just stay away from the Hyatt. Worst service ever & very pricey.

Our family from Seattle has stayed at The Doubletree many times. It has always been perfectly fine. I enjoy it too when they stay there because there is a certain desk clerk that flirts with me and gives me cookies.

My sister, kid, and hubby stayed at Doubletree last year and were pleased. And she is a neat freak. Not as fancy as Westin, but they got lucky & had fantastic view. Kid liked the cookies.

The Doubletree is fine. It's not as high profile as the Westin, but it's a decent place to stay, especially if they are in the hilton honor points program.

The Ramada in JSQ used to be a really good deal $$$ wise (for a place close to the PATH). This was years back though that I had someone stay there.

Yes.. I know it used to be the infamous Mayflower hotel...

Has anyone had any recent experience with the Doubletree? I have friends coming to stay and they're trying to decide between Doubletree and the W. The Doubletree has better rates, but I wasn't sure if it was a good place to stay.

Opinions welcome!
