When you have high density, multi-level inner city dwellings or developments without increasing the street sewer infrustructure to accommodate the population explosion, then you can't expect much but smell, overflow and constaint maintenance issues. Same can be said about water pressure and our unground cabling for technology. Cityhall administrators (Mayor's) have turned a blind eye for years, instead of getting developers to contribute greatly to our infrustructure. This could have been done via a tax / levy for every bedroom they create in the municipality.

The poop in our sewage system downtown doesn't go anywhere until the trucks come and suck it all up. As I said in another thread we live over a giant port-o-john. Now there is a storm moving up the coast and causing rising tides and flooding so the poop is getting higher and higher. YAY MORE HIGH-RISES!!!

I think the Healy strategy is to hope for a catastrophic sewer blowup so severe that they could cry like babies for federal aid... Obviously any proactive/competent strategy was beyond their scope of abilities...

We've lived on Bright Street for some 10 years and the flooding is continually getting worse with each year. Basement flooded in the past but now its raw sewage pouring in the last few bad storms. Really disgusting.

Downtown flooding is going to continue until there are changes to our ancient sewage system. It doesn't help that our city keeps giving the green light to developers that put yet more stress on an already burdened system citywide.

But that being said...I love Bright Street and I have some of the best neighbors in this town!!

The neighborhood needs a little corner shop. Living nearer to Grand as I do, there's nothing around.

It can flood. I only have my new apartment because the place I live at had flooded during Sandy so the tenants previous to me had to leave.

That said, I didn't care. I moved here anyway. I lived in Hamilton Park for a couple years and that's nice enough too.

I've been looking for a new place and I'm considering that neighborhood.

Can anyone confirm exactly where it flooded? Between Varick and Jersey? Jersey and Barrow? All the above?

Is this is persistent problem? Does it affect the first floor or just the basements?

Thanks for the feedback.

this is right by PS 3 and MS 4, good to know children are breathing sewer air.

Anyone impacted, please call the number below. Nothing gets done unless a paper trail is started in this backwards city.

It is vital you call in any sewer related problems. Even if you think there will be no resolve, this gets reported quarterly to the EPA and shows where the problems are. I usually hear from the JCMUA that no one called in and the quarterly reports confirm this. We have made great headway with the JCMUA after Irene and want to push as hard as we can to getting viable solutions in place. The pumps downtown will have taken nearly 2 years to install (in August) so your voices being heard as soon as possible and as often as possible will create an important record for prioritizing future projects.

Call 201-432-1150 and press 0 for customer service.

This also takes the politics out of it. The JCMUA will tell the mayor's office that certain situations need attention and they will have the call log to prove it.

I live on Bright and Varick fortunately not ground level. When I came downstairs this morning the ground level tenants were airing out their apartment and there was gross water all in their apt and halls of our building- so yep sewers backed up (which did Not happen to our building during Sandy).

When wil the city fix this? I don't understand- wasnt there a lawsuit regarding this issue?

That's "fecal soup". Yours and your neighbor's poop and pee. Isn't it wonderful? It has nowhere to go. Isn't it great that Healy and his cronies want to add more and more high-rises downtown? The infrastructure is ancient and yet they see no problem with adding thousands of people who will add their poop and pittle to the mix. The trucks have to vacuum up the fecal soup because the sewers can't handle it all. YAY HEALY!!! Please, for all our sakes, vote for Steve Fulop.

I understand it rained a great deal this morning but Trucks are here and it smells horrible. I hope I'm just paranoid but something is happening and that something smells foul.
