Aren't AM/PM's from out west and linked up with Arco gas stations ? I'd would rather a Quick Check they are a Jersey outfit and family owned. They take pride on who they hire in their stores. The products are usually fresh and local and a good hot chocolate to boot. The closest one to here is in North Bergen on 53rd and Kennedy. There are 4 in Bayonne.

Most corner delis/bodegs are family owned and operated. They usually employ maybe 1 or 2 non-family members unless they have a salad bar of which there are very few around downtown. Their prices are terrible and their selection is meager. WaWa is indeed a chain but they will employ more people and have better prices. I cannot pretend I have a problem with them opening in Jersey City.

North Jersey is the mecca for all fast food chains and similar franchises - Our demographics would be ideal for that sort of crap stores and 'family' restaurants !
These types of businesses invest heavy in market research and demographic data.

I remember seeing lots of these places in central Jersey as a kid. Even more ubiquitous than Starbucks I recall--and probably with a more diversified selection. I just had a fleeting moment of nostalgia after reading Toonces's comment about the one right before Six Flags in Jackson. Happier times...

A Wawa just opened in Kearny (right next to Walmart), so they are slowly getting closer and closer to JC.

I could have sworn there was a WaWa (years ago) by the Candlewyck Diner in Carlstadt.

Whoa. That is just bizarre. Maybe even wrong. Is this even allowed?

The best and first Wawa i ever went to was the one at Princeton University. So freaking awesome and ironic cause of all the great architecture. Bonus it's right near the Dinky!

I grew up in Madison - there used to be a WaWa downtown, for years (but it closed probably ~25 years ago).

I love how the article implies that we've never heard of them. Is there anyone that hasn't gone to Great Adventure, and hit the WaWa (that's pretty much right across from the entrance) on their way in or out??

The old gourmet market space on the corner of Hudson and Essex is ready and waiting.

And there's space in Trump.
