Also, Clockers, a book by Richard Price and movie by Spike Lee (who moves location to Brooklyn); Five Finger Discount by Helene Stepinski (which is a riotous memoire); Mysteries of My Father (another funny but touching and evocative memoir) by Thomas Fleming; Powerticians by Francis X. Smith which was printed by a Vanity Press but is a fantastic read.

Oh, thanks for reminding me about the Wallace Stevens poem!
Another mention for JC, is in Will Cather's short novel, My Mortal Enemeny. Myra and her husband Oswald return to their fictional hometown of Parthia, Illinois, to visit their relatives. Nellie and Aunt Lydia then leave to spend the Christmas holiday in New York City with them. They live on Madison Square. If I recall correctly, there are two scenes at the old Railroad Station (now in Liberty State Park). Cather is very descriptive about the station in the snow.

new jersey noir is a series of short stories, edited by Joyce Carol Oates all set in NJ. A Bag for Nicolas, by Hirsh Sawhney is set in Jersey City.

A large chunk of action in Dave White's "Witness to Death" thriller takes place in post 9/11 Jersey City.
The thriller itself is only so-so, but you'll get a kick out of all the JC references in this free Kindle download.

Several of Richard Price's novels are set in the bleak, crime-ridden fictional city of Dempsey, New Jersey. Located between the Holland Tunnel and Newark, Dempsey is obviously Jersey City at its darkest.
There's a great, spooky scene in CLOCKERS in an abandoned hospital reminiscent of the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital. Newport Mall shows up in SAMARITAN, whose the main character lives a relatively upscale existence (for a Price novel) in Port Liberte.

great film, great soundtrack, great Jersey City locations (#1 chinese restaurant on west side avenue, lafayette park, ocean avenue, heights liquor store, rooftop overlooking west NJ), starring Forest Whitaker From IMDB: In Jersey City, an African American hit man follows "Hagakure: The Way of the Samurai." He lives alone, in simplicity with homing pigeons for company, calling himself Ghost Dog. His master, who saved his life eight years ago, is part of the local mob. When the boss' daughter witnesses one of Ghost Dog's hits, he becomes expendable. The first victims are his birds, and in response, Ghost Dog goes right at his attackers but does not want to harm his master or the young woman. On occasion, he talks with his best friend, a French-speaking Haitian who sells ice cream in the park, and with a child with whom he discusses books. Can he stay true to his code? And if he does, what is his fate?

I was reading Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days (it was a free Kindle download, so I decided to give it a read again), and Jersey City gets a mention in the book as a site for a NYC ferry terminal. I guess things have not changed much since 1873...
Are there any other well-known books or movies in which Jersey City gets mentioned by name?
