NJ 101.5 has traffic every 15 minutes and they cover that area of the turnpike.

Thanks for the suggestions. My Google maps GPS isn't always reliable so I haven't tried it in awhile but I think I'll check out these suggestions.

I thought for sure I'd be bombarded with "move to the suburbs" comments.

Thanks for posting this. I sat in this traffic this morning and it added an hour to my reverse commute. Today it was an accident, on one hand good (not just construction) if no one got hurt.

Set up a free account on http://www.traffic.com/.

You can configure various "Drives" (specifying where you get ON and OFF certain roads) and the site will send you alerts (via email or text) if the traffic is over a certain threshold for your route.

It's even smart enough to let you know about alternates, so you can configure one drive as "Morning via Pulaski" and another as "Morning via Turnpike Extension" and it will let you know if one route is better than the other. You can also do the same for your evening commute home.

It's not perfect and sometimes the warnings don't come until it's too late, but at the least it can give you a heads up if there is a major issue.

The mobile site at http://mobi.traffic.com works great from a smartphone as well and can display a quick page with all of your customized drives.

Do you know that even our $80 GPS now has built-in traffic (lifetime for free over FM) as does our iPhone and Blackberry have free Apps for traffic... I think Androids even now have these free apps.

For AM radio -- Bloomberg is best for North and Central Jersey ( or try 1010 AM and 880 AM)

If you have to go to South Jersey or PA then you really need to listen to 101.5 FM -- but what a Hill Rat station -- unless you love jerks talking and/or endless crap music....

Does anyone have any good recommendations for finding out the local traffic in the morning? I do an opposite commute each morning, going from Downtown JC to the Turnpike via the Turnpike extension. With the bridge construction going on it seems like a crap shoot whether I'll get through or sit in traffic for an hour. The other alternatives (1&9 Truck via Communipaw or Pulaski Skyway) are as equally unreliable and most of the local traffic reports on radio rarely mention our area. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.
