Central & Beacon was the location in the original posting #1 but the most recent incident was on the Slope.

Two men rob $200 from store in Jersey City's Western Slope

Monday, January 17, 2011
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Two men robbed a store on Jersey City's Western Slope after ordering the owner to lay on the ground at the back of the store on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

At 12:13 p.m. the men entered the store at Liberty Avenue and North Street and one forced the 51-year-old owner to the rear of the store while the second man jumped the counter and took $200, reports said.

The men fled the store and got into a waiting silver-gray Kia van which carried them west on North Street and north on Tonnelle Avenue, reports said.

The first robber was described as being clean shaven with short black hair and black eyes, reports said, adding that the second was wearing a black hooded jacket, sunglasses and a face mask. Both were 18 to 20 years old, reports said, adding that there is no mention of a weapon in the police report.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

There's no connections at least not mentioned in the posted articles saying these two individuals were responsible for the robberies last week up in the heights.

True, this is an error -- it should be moved to the thread: "Downtown pharmacy robbed at gunpoint" - or just to a new thread starting with Downtown & Westside Pharmacies...

Hey webbie help me out -- before they start gathering with torches!

Jersey City cops nab two felons they say committed at least three armed drugstore robberies

Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City police have charged two felons in three brutal drugstore robberies in which the pair stole drugs, cash, and jewelry, and terrorized employees and patrons with heavy firepower, officials said today.

Rahoo Drew, 31, and Reginald Ware, 41, both of Newark, have been charged with three counts of robbery, and Union City police will determine if they will be charged in a drugstore robbery there, officials said.

The robberies "were as vicious as you can get and they were committed by two guys with long criminal histories that include violence and weapons possession," Police Major Case Unit Commander Lt. Michael Kelly said of the allegations.

"They came in with big guns and stuck them in the faces of victims who were in absolute terror," Kelly added. "That was their plan, to terrorize people as soon as they walked in."

The pair is charged in the Oct. 10 robbery of Carry Drug Store on Bright Street during which the robbers demanded Viagra, other drugs, and cash before leaving with $900 in property, reports said, adding that the robbers were armed with semi-automatic handguns.

They are also charged with the Aug. 4 robbery of Welcome Pharmacy on West Side Avenue, where about $10,000 worth of cash, jewelry and prescription drugs were taken, including oxycodone, and Viagra, reports said, adding that victims said one robber had an Uzi submachine gun.

Finally, they are charged with the July 27 robbery of Wisdom Pharmacy at 2717 Kennedy Blvd. during which about $1,000 in drugs and cash were taken, reports said, adding that the victims said the robbers had "machine guns."

Kelly said the case was solved by dogged police work, which led to information from an informant about the getaway car.

On Wednesday last week, police went to Drew's neighborhood, found the getaway car and arrested him when he walked up and got in, reports said. Ware had already been identified by then and he was arrested at his home the next day, Kelly said.

The getaway vehicle, a Honda Accord, had been carjacked in Jersey City last month on Van Horne Street and both men have been charged with that crime in which the driver was robbed at gunpoint, Kelly said.

Today, Jersey City police will turn over the investigation files to Union City police who will determine if Drew and Ware will be charged in the Oct. 14 robbery of America's Pharmacy on Summit Ave, Kelly said. In that robbery, the gunmen took prescription drugs, including Percoset and Xanax, and about $2,000, reports said.

Ware was in prison from April 15, 1994 to Oct. 28, 2003, March 31, 2004 to July 5, 2005, and Jan. 20, 2006 to Jan. 18, 2009, for crimes including two counts of aggravated assault, five counts of weapons offenses, and other crimes, corrections records say.

Drew was in prison from Dec. 12, 2005 to Nov. 25, 2009 for aggravated assault and receiving stolen property, corrections records say.

Armed thugs enter 2 stores minutes apart in Jersey City Heights and Western Slope and quickly clean out cash registers

Saturday, November 13, 2010
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

A store in the Jersey City Heights and one on the Western Slope were cleaned out of cash during armed robberies Thursday night and the thieves also snatched necklaces off a man on the street as they fled, officials said.

"They are animals," said the 47-year-old man who was working in the store at Liberty and Carlton avenues at 7:57 p.m. when a robber slammed his head onto the counter and held a gun to the back of his head, reports said.

A second man went behind the counter and emptied the register before the gunman struck the employee with the gun and both men fled, reports said. The employee suffered a cut on his forehead from being pistol whipped and he said he was taken to Christ Hospital for a CAT scan, reports said.

About 10 minutes earlier, police responded to a Central Avenue store and were told by the owner that two men got out of a Ford Explorer and entered his business brandishing a silver handgun, reports said. The robbers took $600 from the register and $400 in lottery proceeds before fleeing, reports said.

As the men walked from the store they snatched three necklaces from the neck of a man standing on Central Avenue before getting into the Explorer and driving away heading west on Beacon Avenue, reports said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
