Jackpot! Timing is everything......
I finally scored my folder. A vintage Dahon 'California' model. :D Unfortunately it is still in NC waiting on a little more restoration work, but it should be up here in a week or three.... and it has 16" wheels which is kindof a pain ridingwise, but it fits nicely into a smallish rolling suitcase.... the kind that is the smaller sort of airplane allowed carry-on luggage - which can be rolled OR worn as a backpack (ideally when the bike is unfolded and being ridden). Now I just need to save my shekels until I can buy a custom fit Bike Friday! Just sorry I missed the Saturday ride..... ---diogenesNY

PATH folks were at the 33rd Street station yesterday so I asked them - they walked me over to the Rule board which basically states that bikes aren't allowed between 6:30-9:30am and 3:30-6:30pm.
They explained that folding bikes were allowed anytime

A quick answer "bag the bike" you can't stop someone when the bike is not visible; Out of sight out of mind, no food for thought. PATH usually looks the other way with folding bikes. A full size bike has a lot of parts & pieces jutting outward any move can cause the bike to latch onto a person or what they are carrying but when folded it becomes more forgiving.. If passengers are allowed on with strollers, wheelchairs, luggage, packages, and of course the famous backpacks then a folded bike isn't that much different. By having a bike that folds then it won't inhibit others, although it can get pretty tight in those PATH cars.

I think eventually as the city becomes more crowded and makes more no car zones along with congestion and higher toll fees, things will be less fuzzy.

That's presuming they'll charge you at least as much as a car, not that there'd be anything like the number of cars that would use that lane. I hate fuzzy thinking.

I don't really give a shit about being green. I only ride for purely recreational use because it is fun and is good exercise. I don't take my bike on the PATH during weekdays either because I walk to work from downtown. It would be one thing if folding bikes were illegal but apparently they're not. Like I said, people buy em cause they're smaller which means less of an annoyance for people around them. I'm sorry your leg gets poked, but people are also starting to use bags also.
Bikes are only going to become more popular and the subway allows full size bikes on at any time, so it's kinda a reality that has to be dealt with. (like strollers and shopping carts..and fat people) I never mentioned building a damn bridge either, just let bikes go through the tunnel. I would bike to work if there was that option.

I remember a few years back the Path website stating that folding bikes were OK. Then a year later my wife bought one, but when I looked again it there was no mention of folding bikes (maybe a subtle way of deterring them on the trains). But I see from posts 6 and 7 they are OK.

Start training and your problem is solved!

I feel like there will be bikes that fly before an actual pedestrian bridge ever got built, so no I don't really care about that.
But being that bikes can't use the existing infrastructure such as the tunnels I don't see why there can be a huge complaint about people taking there folding bikes across the river on the PATH.

you thinking bringing a folding bike on a train is an act of rudeness is ridiculous. one of the reason people buy folding bikes (like myself) is so it takes up a smaller footprint. also maybe if we could bike across the river in the first place, we wouldn't have to act so rude
