I was talking about the Heights location, not the JSQ restaurant. If you talk to them, they will make anything. I have had excellent experiences there.

I was speaking of the one opened up in the heights by Riotto funeral home.

I know the JSQ Cafe very well.. Sat night service is horrible, you?d have to sit there a half hour or so just to get coal plus there is ?service charge?

You're better off going any night besides Sat.

You're totally mis-informed. Have you ever been there? The place is at 2881 Kennedy (next door to 24 hr McDonald's) and has a wide variety of items as posted below.

They also have free bellydance performers at midnite, every Sat, with some of the most accomplished dancers not only locally, but traveling worldwide from places such as Turkey, Greece and Kuala Lampur.

Journal Square Cafe (aka Al Solimanya) is open from 4pm until 4am, no alcohol (or byob)as is Muslim owned, but many fruit juices, soda, tea and turkish coffee. Their are also board games and ping pong and of course hookah(shisha) in many flavors. Mohammed, the co-owner is a delightful and very pleasant man.

There is an egyptian restaurant up on Central Ave name Cleopatra. She pretty much makes what she wants, but when I asked her if she made foul, she said she would love to and would call me when she made it next. She did call, unfortunately I was in Brooklyn that day.... It's a husband/wife business and they are super friendly. my husband and I were the only white folk in there when we go, but they are so happy and accommodating. Try them out!

Hi MikeZ

Thanks - I go look for them...

Did you ever hear of Kushari/Kushary when you were there?

There is a great food site that often writes about Jersey City places: http://www.eatingintranslation.com

Here they found Kushari at a very funny place:

There is a new Egyptian restaurant on JFK, just south of Lake St in the heights. It seems very authentic to me, but I've only spent 2 weeks in Egypt in my life. I don't remember the name or address, but food, staff, and hookah were all great. On the East side of the street.

My nephew goes to the CIA in Hyde Park and asked me if I know of an Egyptian place in town that serves Kushari (or Kushary) -- it's an Egyptian dish of pasta, rice and lentils in a tomato sauce.

If not here in Jersey City then NYC or Brooklyn?

I called Morgan Fish, Suez and Alexandria Restaurant and Fish Market... no luck but not sure they understood what I was after.
