So is this the new trend like all the people in Williamsburg who suddenly find it ironic to sleep any place but their beds, ie tents. Im not trying to be a d*** im genuinly curious. As far as saftey I dont think it will be a problem, might have some bugs crawl on your face but nothing to severe.

I see people who sleep outside downtown all the time, so it must be safe.

What a sad state of affairs when one can't even sleep in their own yard without the fear of crime or violence...........Healy and Comey need to work on their perception of crime in JC!

Please don't laugh at my kind of funny question... I live in a brick rowhouse downtown and have a small back yard with a stockade fence around it. It is surrounded on all sides by the fenced yards of other neighbors. I'm considering "camping" in a tent overnight with my son this summer in our yard. Would you do this? Do you think it's safe?

Just curious...Where do you live and when will you be sleeping outdoors?

You know what, about 20 years ago or a lil more I was going to do the same with a few friends when we were younger. We had the tent set up in my back yard & were going to sleep there overnight. We changed our minds & just selpt inside.
I guess it was a good thing because during the night right on the other side of the fence, my neighbors house got robbed in the middle of the night. They came through their backyard & loaded up their garbage cans with stuff & thats how they got away.
I wonder what would of happened if we actually slept outside that night.
There were any possums or stray cats or anything in the neighborhood back then.

Well, the bear trumps my story!
I was just going to say that there are lots of animal passing through the backyards at night, so it depends upon what you're comfortable with.
I've startled and been startled by opossums and raccoons on my back deck. I chased a raccoon away, squirting it with the hose, and it came back and chewed up the cushions on the lawn furniture. The 'possum stood his ground, hissed and bared his fangs at me when I shone a flashlight in his face.
Just sayin, the creatures aren't exactly as shy and retiring as one might assume. Its a jungle out there.

Safer than real camping for sure! On my son's 1st trip with the Scouts last weekend they had a bear in camp.

I would say most likely nothing will happen. I used to have a similar small backyard like you and I have heard noises sometimes. Once (in a 4 yr span), I saw 2 thugs walking through a neighbor's backyard and alley at 1am.

Yes. It would be as safe as sleeping in your own house. The likelihood of a burglar coming through your back yard is about the same as one coming through your front door.

Fyi, Liberty Harbor also allows camping for $40/night in a parking lot.

LOL. It's a funny title for a thread. I'd say as long as the backyard is not visible from the street, you're good. If it was visible from the street, you might attract some weirdos' attention.
