I used to order and eat at Village Thai often and really loved the food there. My friend John used to always order it whenever he visited me because he loved it (especially the Pad See Yel). Last night he ordered the same dish from the renovated recently reopened restaurant (now Sky). First of all, they forgot the extra hot sauce he requested on the side. Second of all, he complained that it didn't taste good at all. Finally, he was up all night vomiting.

I hope this was a one off because I used to really enjoy Village. Is it under new ownership/management now? Are they using different chefs/staff?

We ate there last night and had no complaints. Good food, good service, good prices.

They opened yesterday and I ordered a few things for dinner to try.

Massaman Curry was good and the Tom Yum soup was tasty. The basil fried rice was really good and I would totally order it again, I couldn't stop eating it.

They didn?t have one or two things but that?s expected on a first night. Overall I would say it's slightly better than average but by no means extraordinary. Nice to have another option in the neighborhood.

They were loading in all the food last night, TONS of boxes carried in off trucks, must be opening very soon, perhaps this weekend.

It's also associated with Sawadee and according to the owner, who we passed on the street yesterday, it will be open in two weeks.

Apparently they have to open on good date on the Chinese calendar. At least that is what he told us.

If it's in fact related to More, then I hope that they'll put "more" in their portions than More typically does.

I like More's food, but whenever I take out from them, the portions are small, and they never seem to put more than a token amount of protein.

Is this place affiliated with More on Grove Street? I saw a sign at More advertising Sky Thai. ??

So it appears the renovation is nearly complete on the old Village Thai, it will now be Sky Thai. The location is Morris Street near the corner of Greene.

Anyone have any insights? Same owners as Village? Will it be mediocre Thai just as before? The inside appears rather "club-like" but it's better than before I suppose.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good things from the kitchen but expect the same.
