Gave this place a try last Thanksgiving. Ordered 2 trays of seafood paella after the waiter and manager misled me about portion size. They claimed one order was only good for 1-2 people. Have to disagree about it being as good as places in Newark. Don Pepe's paella it was not. The shrimp in the dish was hard and inedible. The shellfish looked on the dirty side with miniscule pieces of shell or sand waiting to surprise you in every other bite. Not likely to go back to try their other offerings.

Thought I would post about our dinner experience at Lisbon 2 recently.

Our dinner:

Filet on the stone: Really good.

Garlic Shrimp: Excellent

Lobster and King Crab Legs: Meh

Shrimp Croquettes: Really good

Service: Fine

Decor: Tolerable. Not a date place if you are trying to impress.

Portions were big and of most of the places I have eaten in the Paulus Hook area, definitely one of the best if not the best for value and quality of food.

Their new space is so uninviting, bright and colourful. Looks and feels like a McDonalds.

Ate at Lisbon Friday night with some friends. Wow, I was impressed. The paella was as good as I've had in the Ironbound, and for $20.95, I had enough leftovers for TWO lunches. Sangria was great, and we drank a-plenty of it. Appetizers were also great (clams casino and chorizo). Will DEFINITELY be back, and I can't believe it's taken me so long to try this place out. I feel like they are kind of under the radar.

Not sure why there hasn't been a post about Lisbon in over a year, but just thought I would give an update on how things are there:

My wife and I dined at Lisbon's relatively new location (next to York Street Tavern) on Saturday with two other family members and had a great time. The host/owner was super friendly when we came in, and the food was great.

My wife ordered the Paella and had enough left over for another meal a few days later. I had the surf & turf and the Filet was cooked perfectly and the lobster tail was surprisingly large. We also ordered a pitcher of Sangria for the table which only 3 of us were drinking and it was also excellent (it looks like others have mentioned the great sangria in previous posts and that is still the case). Desert was only OK, carrot cake was iffy, but the flan was good.

And 4 entres, 1 pitcher of sangria, 3 deserts, 1 coffee, and the bill was (i think) about $30pp + tip.

Highly recommended, but no longer a BYOB, they have a full bar with 2 TVs (both had the Yankee game on).

I started going to Lisbon in 1991 and have been a regular there ever since. Their food is comparable to anything found in Newark.

My wife and I had our firast date at Komegashi but we had our second date at Lisbon. I would be hard pressed to decide between the two. I will miss the old place, but I will go to their new location.

Along with their excellent Sangria, their Portugese Coffee is to die for.

I wanted to like Lisbon a lot. We ate there three times earlier this year and while some of the food was all right, the main courses always disappointed, especially the meat dishes. I just had the feeling that the basic quality of the meat wasn't so hot (the pork and clam dish was especially dreary). Yes, good sangria and decent desserts and the room itself is very comfortable, the service fine. But it ain't no Tony Da Caneca (in Newark), not by a long shot.

btw, the affiliated pizza place does a pretty OK white clam pie.

They also have excellent sangria that goes down far to easily.

I ate there a couple of times and I enjoyed it.

The front of the restaurant is misleading. The dining room is in the back and it is family friendly.

If the front looked better, I think they would have more business.
