You are making this up. Gangbangers? Lined up along the street? Always? I cannot accept this is true.

I have driven to LSP countless times over the years and never once felt unsafe. And I'm sort of a chicken.

huh? maybe i will take some pics next time. Coming from downtown i always go from grand st to pacific ave then se. When you get closer to lsc, i see those badly modded japanese cars with the gangbangers standing around them. I dont know if they are flashing signs or what, but they are always there.

To the pitbull chick, get off your high horse, it has nothing to do with the color/race.

ps jennymalyle bring back the old avatar, the new one sucks.

My dog is not a pitbull thank you.

So I must ask..Does it have to be this way? ( Scary as hell) Why is this not unacceptable? What have our elected officials done to make Jersey City Residents feel safe? Most of them have been in office anywhere from 8 to 16 years. Shouldn't resident safety be the # 1 priority?

As for the rest of the city, it's a block by block thing (old time listers in the house!). Use your best judgement. Stay calm and don't panic.

I'm getting super uncomfortable with this theory that people can't go anywhere outside their safe downtown vicinity -- ooh, too scary, stay where it's safe, gangs! gangs! gangs! It perpetuates the already crappy attitude about our city and it also creates what I consider an unnecessary wave of panic about anything remotely urban.

Listen, I love my safe little VVP enclave, don't get me wrong. And I wouldn't advise just dawdling around areas you don't know, since that's just asking for trouble. But let's stop making this sounds like the scariest place on earth because that's unfair.

Except Ocean Avenue. AVOID.

For those saying it is unsafe...I am curious to know is there any place you feel safe in JC besides Paulus Hook, Newport, and some parts of the Grove st area? A while ago i thought people actually had something against the beacon (with all the ranting on that thread), now i am starting to believe jennymayla's theory above may be very true.

Indomitus you're sarcasm is amusing. Thanks for the info Jennymayla. And Iwitness the first post after the article was about safety, the conversation stayed on that topic so I did too. Noone answered the original posters question about why it took so long to get reported and I don't know the answer to that.

Please. Everyone knows that any neighborhood in JC that is not a lighter shade of pale, with luxury condos (with amenities) every 6 feet next to a Starbucks is a "sketchy and bad neighborhood filled with gangbangers lining the streets - who by the way only wear extra large white T-shirts....

From The Beacon? Walk down Montgomery, turn right on Jersey, take it to the end, over the bridge and through the boatyard. Bam, you're there.

excuse me, I did not jump on you, please feel free to show me where I did... I asked you a question, to which you still did not respond, so I will ask again.

Why did you feel the need to include you are white?
You might as well said I drive a white car... because uhh it does not matter.

People like "me" do not contribute to race relations, I just wish that your "whiteness" was not included in the discussion, I just took a college course which taught that when race is not important to the matter then you leave it out. I am only going by what I have just learned. Forgive me if I attacked you, Your Whiteness

You sure don't seem to hate to make this a race issue. In fact, you seem like one of those people who actively enjoys making things into a race issue.

why do you bother to go all the way there to run. you live in paulus hook right? just run along the waterfront walkway from newport down to the piers by goldman. It's a nice path....

That's what I've been doing but I just wanted to mix it up a bit, especially for a weekend long run.

Not at all... I mean people hanging out on the street sure.... whatever... you see people out downtown all the time. But I guess since you see young, black kids they are "gangbangers" I will not accept that unless you tell me you have seen them flashing gang signs, holding a piece, and or wearing gang related colors ( although they don't really wear colors anymore)

Take it easy, captain. I was merely giving a physical description of myself. You can find whatever part of that description relevant or not relevant at your discretion.

It is actually irrelevant to what your saying, by stating your white that has nothing to do with whether you will be safe or not.

The area is fine (to me anyways) I have a few dogs I walk at the Foundry and I go there at 10, 11pm and have no problems at all.

I don't see any problem crossing the foot bridge at the end of Jersey Ave...I do it all the time running alone or with groups (I am also a not so big white female) at all different times of the day/night.

In the mornings on weekends there are many people who take that route - dog walkers, bikers, runners/walkers. You'd be surprised at how many people use the park at very early hours - I've even seen people there on weekday mornings. On the weekend you should have no problems.
