Live in the area. Just went outside to park my car on the other side of the street. Forgot to roll up my windows yesterday. Nothing was touched and GPS is still inside. Pretty cool.

I live right there. Not a bad area at all. Sometimes I see a shady character walking around, the Barge Inn has a less than desirable crowd, but it's isolated to that bar, and mostly just weekend nights.

I rarely see anything go down in the area. Madame Claude's is a block away, Lucky 7's, and it's a few blocks from Hamilton Park, so there's a lot of decent people living in the area and a few of them look out for their neighbors.

The main issue is that it doesn't look as nice mainly because of the atrocious looking pizza shops, the barge inn, and the grocery store on the corner, altough those guys are very nice. I just chalk it up as being jersey city. Lots of potential but still lots of old schoolers who like to litter, and not spend money on upkeep. But this can work in your favor if you are looking for a rental. There are some real bargains in the area.

No, Lucky 7's is on Coles St. Between 2nd and 3rd. The crowd at the barge is actually more quiet. The barge is mostly frequented by oldtimers vs. Lucky's by younger "hipper" douchebags.

You will be fine. Just don't look for trouble & it won't find you.

In fact, chances are even if you do look for it, it still won't find you.

Yes, its definitely safer then JSQ. This area is in downtown. Plus it's one stop closer to the city. Although that particular block is a little iffy because of ONE house. I always see shady looking people hanging out on the porch of the mint green home. Don't know what number it is.

I live around there and work near JSQ. I feel safe in both areas. My recommendation would be to check out the areas during the day and night to get a feel for them.

I live close to there and feel that it is safe.

The hubby works nights at times and have never had a problem :::knock on wood

I have stayed out late hanging out with girlfriends and have not been afraid of walking home alone.

if your THAT worried then maybe you want to second guess living in a city. There are quite a few robberies and car break-ins, muggings in the downtown area.. unforutnately it is an affluent area and muggers and robbers know this and take advantage. If your somewhat street smart you will be fine

I live right around there. I doubt you'll be dodging gun fire, maybe a drunk driver or 2....

Seems like a great area.. but I've seen people on here say that if you are near Abbey's Bar, watch out for gunshots.

Seriously? This is an affluent area, and right near Harsimus Cove/Hamilton Park neighborhood.

If someone could just provide a little insight on this area, that would be great!
