This happened to me when I last lived in JC, back in 1999. I went to work on the PATH at about 8:30 am, came back that evening and my car was gone, and No Parking signs had been posted all of a sudden (in this case they were filming a movie). Paid quite a bit to get my car out of impound, plus a ticket. I went to court to fight it with my then-roommate, who also had been towed. My entire block was there in the courtroom too. The judge was like Judge Judy and you had to stand there and plead your case. She dropped the ticket but not the impound fee.

Some things never change...

They have now posted no parking signs on 1st st. What gets me, is that this is all being done overnight. What about 1st st., where it currently dead ends is so busy that it can't be torn up (and then left that way for weeks) during the day?

How about if they tow your car and keep you from sleeping!

So far I haven't seen any actual paving. I have just seen street after street ripped up. Which i must tell you feels great in my honda fit. the suspension is awesome!

A few weeks ago, when they were doing the curbs at the west end of Columbus, (in fits and starts) near Ferris, they not only did it starting at 7am but closed the road to traffic.

Columbus is wayyyyy busier than 6th street, yet it got done during the day.

This city is absurd in all ways.

Anyone that got their cars towed or can't sleep because of the noise should call city hall and send an email to Fulop's office. This kind of crap has to stop.

City Hall Tel: (201) 547-4900/5555
Fulop's Email: FulopS@jcnj.org

They're going it on Grove north of 14th street right now. When I left at 10 in the morning there were no signs. Today I come back from work and there are signs saying no parking from 6pm to 6am and not a car in sight. I doubt my neighbors were all home before 6 today. Who is going to see that if they work 9-5? I'm so glad I don't drive, I'd hate to come back to this mess. That's just messed up.

Hoboken wouldn't pull this shit. No wonder all the rich, working, tax paying folk that JC is trying to appeal to would rather live in Hoboken than this shithole.

Not to mention they are just repaving but the signs say it's emergency maintenance, which, now looking at this post, is BS. How about a little planning and advanced warning? They also say that the boundary is the city limits. So I guess that 700 grove wasn't in need of emergency maintenance? Or maybe it's not an emergency and just a stupid town project.

And I'm really glad that it's almost 1 am and they aren't even halfway. It will be nice to try to sleep through the jackhammering.

FU Jersey City. I'm moving to California.

Despite the absurdity of tearing up the roadbed at 2am, the insults hurled by many of my neighbors on 6th st last night at the work crew is inexcusable.

These gentleman are merely doing their jobs, and are the last people to take to task for this late-night work.

Shameful.

tow $120... was that for a flatbed, thats what a flatbed usually charges. A regular tow truck is cheeper if u could prove it was from a reguler tow truck but id take that to court & fight them all.
Bring the street sign with you!!!

i'm so sorry this happened to you. unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do besides fight the ticket (if you want). this happened to my boyfriend a few months ago on 4th street. he moved his car friday morning, then friday afternoon they threw up a no parking sign, and saturday they towed his car. honestly, who goes back to check on their car on the weekend? also, we were out of town that night. we come back saturday afternoon and poof, the car is gone. they had it for a matter of hours and charged $175. awful. also, there was no construction or repaving going on- the no parking sign was to fit a moving truck. fabulous!

If they had started with the busiest and most unpaved street Downtown - Newark Avenue - I would not be complaining!

That said, something seems very out of kilter when 6th street needs to be paved at 12:30 am because it is "so busy", yet Columbus Drive remains an 'off-road proving ground'.

The sign DID NOT say "street paving"! It was just a no parking sign that you see all the time with a time and date.

In fact, I found an officer that was working last night and he told me they did not tow the cars bwtn Erie and Jersey because the Parking Authority did not post any signs till 4:00 pm yesterday. That is 1 hour before they started work.

Come on give me some credit. If I had been notified that the street was going to be paved I would not have park my car there.

The sign that said no parking 4/16 and 4/17 didnt say street paving or something like that?
Did you think they were just paving 1 side of the street? DUH!!!
Also when they towed your car, did you get a ticket or a tow fee? They usually put the towed cars on another street or in a lot in the area.

The machines finally stopped at 12:30 last night, but here it is 7:30 when people are up and about and they are allowed to start and they aren't here.

Yea I got home at 11:30 pm and heard jackhammers over on 6th. I understand it's a fairly busy east/west street, but what goddamned idiot thought that it would be smart to have jackhammers running late at night in a residential neighborhood? Someone should get canned for something as stupid as this. Thank god my bedroom is far enough away that I didn't have to hear it at all.

Ahhh! They have had the jack-hammers going non-stop. I hate to complain about this because you should have seen how happy my face was when I saw the were actually doing something today but it's after midnight and the noise will not stop!!! I seriously want to hurt each and everyone at JOSEPH M SANZARI construction! I called the East district police dept, and asked if they were going to stop and dispatch told me, "oh yeah, they got a permit" or some bull#$%^!! I guess they are allowed to just go all night long. This is so F@#*ing JC! I seriously can't wait to move back to civilized society. I'm done defending Jersey to NYers ...they are right!

I park my car on the street I live on (6th Street btwn Jersey and Coles). I notice there some temp. no parking signs on the opposite side I am park on. I take a look at it and it says no parking 4/16 and 4/17. I look to see if there is anything on the side I am parked on and I see nothing. Since there is a sign post and three trees near my car and no sign I make the assumption that my side is ok. I come home and the whole street is torn up and they are repaving and of course my car is gone.

WTF- If they are repaving the street and they need all cars cleared off wouldn't a notice on all the buildings on the street be the logical thing to do? How about just a clear sign on both sides of the street? Now where the F*** do I go to get it back?
