I don't know if this has been discussed but who is responsible for clearing the snow in front of the Embakment on all the streets that cross it? It never gets shoveled and I almost fell on my ass. Add the piles of dog crap and it makes for a really bad way to start the day.

This is the problem I have. People have not been living next to or underneath these towers for that long. The long term health effects are unknown.

meh. there are "some" scientists (and I wanted to put that in quotes, too, but figured it would look ugly) who disagree that climate change is happening and that there are probably man-made factors involved in it as well.

i'm willing to go with the vast majority of peer-reviewed material than the few dudes with mostly unsubstantiated claims

Quote:

the studies cited by the article all specify that these results are expected by radiation recipients at ground level adjacent to transmitters on buildings or towers. If I lived on the top floor of that building I would be very concerned.

dare i ask why living next to a tower is somehow different than living beneath one?

I'm guessing you wouldn't mind living there with that much faith in the "peer reviewed material"?

Would anyone have a problem with this if they lived on the top floor of the building and your bedroom was right under one of the antennas?

I live on 6th street as well. The building in question
is a rental building, so I assume the owner is
getting a nice fee to allow the towers and the
residents don't have a say.

I can see about a quarter of the building from
6th street over the Embankment. If they add
"three sectors of four 72 foot antennas" on
top, it will definitely be a eye sore.

I don't know about anyone else but I think this is crap.

I just received a certified letter, informing
me that a hearing will be held
on March 21 at 6:00 to discuss
an application to build a wireless
tower on the roof of 238 5th Street.

They are seeking the following relief:
minor site plan approval and use and
bulk variances to construct a wireless
communications facility consisting
of (3) sectors of four antennas each
mounted at a height of 72 feet and
an unmanned equipment platform
located on the rooftop of the
existing building with sq footage
of aprox 302 sq ft when 250 ft is permitted.

They sent this letter to me because
I own property within 200 feet of the building.

Did anyone else get this letter? Is anyone else concerned?

Hey Brian. I like what you're doing at Park&sixth. I have eaten there about ten times now and have enjoyed it every time. I like that I can get a good quick meal and a tasty beer in a cool setting. Thanks for coming to JC.

So does anyone know what the deal is for a liquor license in JC? If I read this right, you can now open a restaurant next to an existing restaurant with a liquor license.

But how do you get a license? Do you have to buy it from someone that has one or are they issuing new ones? Is there one for just beer and wine?

I have now been to Dames about 4 times. The coffee is excellent. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood. It is more expensive but I think it's well worth it. This is real coffee.

Apparently they will have a backyard garden area open soon which will help to give the place more of a hangout and linger vibe which I think it needs.

I have been here a couple times now and I think their food and service times are good. The falafal is delicious. The bread is a little thicker but holds up better so it's not in my lap after two bites. Two thumbs up from me.

I have eaten here twice and both times the sandwiches I got were fantastic. The Bat out of hell and the Grove. I also like the design of the place.

I think it's great addition to the neighborhood. I get home late most nights so dinner is not an option since they close at 8:00 so I do wish they were open later.

As far as the music goes, both times I have been in there they were playing classic rock from the radio which is fine by me. If I had a complaint it would be the placement of the speakers. There is one way down the hallway and another in the main room so you are listening to half of a song when eating at one of the tables. Not a major deal but if I there was a suggestion box that's my suggestion.

Broken car windows all over

Has anyone noticed a lot of broken glass in the area lately?

I was walking on Erie today and noticed 5 different piles of car window glass from 7th St to Newark. I walk this way every day but I didn't notice it before because of the snow. What's going on?

Anyone that got their cars towed or can't sleep because of the noise should call city hall and send an email to Fulop's office. This kind of crap has to stop.

The sign DID NOT say "street paving"! It was just a no parking sign that you see all the time with a time and date.

In fact, I found an officer that was working last night and he told me they did not tow the cars bwtn Erie and Jersey because the Parking Authority did not post any signs till 4:00 pm yesterday. That is 1 hour before they started work.

Come on give me some credit. If I had been notified that the street was going to be paved I would not have park my car there.

Towing cars on 6th Street without proper notice

I park my car on the street I live on (6th Street btwn Jersey and Coles). I notice there some temp. no parking signs on the opposite side I am park on. I take a look at it and it says no parking 4/16 and 4/17. I look to see if there is anything on the side I am parked on and I see nothing. Since there is a sign post and three trees near my car and no sign I make the assumption that my side is ok. I come home and the whole street is torn up and they are repaving and of course my car is gone.

WTF- If they are repaving the street and they need all cars cleared off wouldn't a notice on all the buildings on the street be the logical thing to do? How about just a clear sign on both sides of the street? Now where the F*** do I go to get it back?

I saw some notices on the embankment by Erie and 6th street today. There is going to be an emergency public hearing. I was late for work so I didn't really look at it. Does anyone know what the deal is with this?

I love Lupa. It has moderate prices and you can get in. Otto is a lot of fun and relatively cheap. Babbo is amazing but a pain in ass to get in to and expensive.

I have only been there once about a year ago but I thought Inoteca on Rivington and Ludlow was really good. They have a huge wine list and serve everything with small plates. The downside is it's small and they don't take reservation for less than, I think 8 people.

Some friends came into town on Saturday and we dinner at Ox. It was very good. We had the same things as other people mentioned before so I won't go into details but all of us were very happy with the service and quality of the food.

Ox is definitely a nice addition to the ever changing JC restaurant scene.

I got a notice about a ticket 6-7 months ago that I never actually saw. It was for not having a resident parking permit when I have one on my car. I called the courts and the person who anwers the phone tells me she is tired of getting phone calls from people getting tickets for permits when they have them. She tells me to call the parking authority.

I had to take a morning off from work and go down to the parking authority to take care of it.

Could have been the same guy. I got the ticket on 6th street.

Re: Cars blowing through stops signs-Hamilton Park Area
#26
Not too shy to talk

I would have to agree with GWB on this one. I really think that cars are allowed to park too close to the intersection which completely blocks any view of oncoming traffic. You then need to creep out and basically turn while looking in the opposite direction of where you are going for fear that a car is coming very quickly the other way.

A very good example is the corner of 7th and Erie, right in front of Isabellas. Last week, I came to a complete stop before the intersection. I then proceeded to turn left onto Erie but I had to look to my right as I slowly started to turn. While I was doing this, a women started to cross Erie on my left so I didn't see her because I was worried about traffic coming down Erie. They just put in a "No parking" sign with an arrow but people park there anyway.

With that being said, I have also been honked at while stepping into a crosswalk while the oncoming car was still 25 feet away.
