Seriously, just because the jackass can't shoot he gets off on a lighter charge?! The law needs to impose a mandatory vasectomy on people who are charged with a violent crime. If you've been in jail this many times, you should have to attain a license to breed in the first place.

Aggravated assault? Firing a gun at someone should be attempted murder. And there should be no difference between attempted murder and murder.
Both of these scumbags should be hanged in public for all to see.

I am sure that if the other man had a child, the shooter would have cared less.

First, get baby out of way - then shoot up the street
Friday, March 27, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER He may have gone on a shooting rampage, police said, but at least he cares about his child. Police are looking for a Jersey City teenage father they said asked a friend to drive his baby daughter home before he opened fire on someone across the street. A witness said the 17-year-old was pushing his daughter in a stroller along Seaview Avenue Wednesday afternoon and was in a loud argument with another man across the street. At about 4 p.m. he asked a friend driving by to pull over and take his daughter home, reports said. That's when "all hell broke loose," the witness told police. The young dad started shooting at the man across the street and that man, subsequently identified as Jerome Powell, 30, of Martin Luther King Drive at Armstrong Avenue, fired back, reports said. The friend sped away when the gunfire broke but wasn't quick enough. Two bullets struck his vehicle, with one of them passing within a foot of the baby and lodging in the center console, reports said. A resident of the area was struck in the face by a bullet fragment, reports said. The man was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where the fragment was removed and it appears his injury was not serious. Powell was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on Seaview Avenue at Old Bergen Road, reports said. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Powell was in state prison from Jan. 3 to Nov. 27, 2007, and Nov. 28, 2007, to Jan. 14, 2009, on convictions for drug possession with intent to distribute and drug possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, state corrections officials said.
