Funny you should mention that because I heard they're putting in a mega-gunstore in the Linens 'n' Things space.

I boss drives the CEO Mr Mackey when he is in the city. I left a message with his Admin and will get to the bottom of this. They do not list JC as an upcoming project.

whole foods stock is getting battered right now so any plans to move in to JC is probably delayed until further notice.

Check it out!

I vote for a 99-cent store. That neighborhood is sorely in need of one, and all those people driving out of the Holland Tunnel are probably thinking "where's the nearest 99-cent store?"

I just love how this rumor refuses to die!! Everytime, it's some new location - some developer or real-estate broker talking up the location with a tantilizing hint that WF or TJ is "considering" setting up shop. And we desperate and deprived yuppies latch onto it every time....

RB- you get such a kick out of the Whole Foods discussion...

Personally, I hope the space becomes a PetSmart or Petco.

If you didn't already know, the Linens and Things in JC is going out of business. I heard from someone at Toll Brothers that a Whole Foods or a Trader Joes might be taking over the location. What do you guys think? Any truth to this?

I hate adding salt to our wounds but I just got my email requesting a Jersey City location returned to me. I had sent this about 1 year ago!

Her Cupcake Salon kiosk is on the second floor of the mall toward Sears and near Lenscrafters if you're interested in checking it out.

Ah yes, that would be the CupCake Salon, by Tastebuds Presents Cyn-Ful Treasures.

I've looked, but I've never tasted her creations.

Maybe it's time for me to indulge in a Red Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Icing?

Mmmm...

I hear you, Xerxes.

But back when I moved to Downtown Jersey City, I didn't expect the following chains to have an existing presence in 07302 or eventually have plans to show up to the party:

- Godiva Chocolatier
- Hollister Co.
- A/X Armani Exchange
- Sephora
- Home Depot
- New York Sports Clubs
- Edible Arrangements
- Swarovski Crystal
- Linens 'n Things
- GNC
- Pier 1 Imports
- Macy's
- Target
- South City Grill
- Bath and Body Works
- Modell's
- Starbucks
- Bed Bath & Beyond
- Cos?
- Pro Golf
- The Disney Store
- Wet Seal
- Bertucci's
- Express/Express Men
- Synergy Fitness Clubs
- Gap
- Grand Sichuan
- Ann Taylor Loft
- Chili's Grill & Bar
- A?ropostale
- bebe sport
- Uno Chicago Grill
- Au Bon Pain
- Doubletree Hotels
- Duane Reade
- Bachrach
- Coach
- Victoria's Secret
- The Body Shop
- Aldo Shoes
- Candlewood Suites
- American Eagle Outfitters
- Hale and Hearty Soups
- The Little Gym
- Hyatt Regency Hotels
- Sarku Japan Sushi Bar
- Morton Williams
- Fatburger
- Westin Hotels
- Kohl's
- Arden B.
- It's Greek to Me
- Forever 21
- Brookstone
- Marriott Courtyard Hotels
- Port City Java

Some of these businesses I've listed are obviously not "high-end," I just didn't move here with the anticipation that they would be already be here or would be opening up shop -- not to mention the massive Goldman Sachs Tower or Donald Trump and his big ol' plaza.

It's quite a juxtaposition when you compare what regional, national and international chains have locations in 07302 now to what was here 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised by the arrival of anything, though I think Sotheby's or Cartier would be more of a stretch than Whole Foods or Trader Joe's!

I definitely don't need a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods here in Downtown Jersey City to be happy, but it is always nice to have extra grocery store shopping options.

I also think that it is inevitable that Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or another higher-end grocery store will make their way into 07302 -- it just may take a little while for it to happen.

In the meantime, I am going to check out the Morton Williams grocery store grand opening festivities that Xerxes mentioned in this post.

I'm all for free hot dogs, free shrimp gyoza and free fruit slices -- not to mention blueberries for 99 cents!

Sure thing my friend.

I am always happy to help when I can and do my best to pass along relevant or interesting information that I come across when I have the time to post.

I hope to try a sandwich from that new place, Marow Deli, on Jersey Avenue at one point in the next week or so.

So many small businesses have crashed and burned on the eastern side of Jersey Avenue between Sushi Tango and Subia's, but I hope this one makes it given its product selection and because of how enthusiastic the owner is.

I really think the store could do quite well as long the surrounding neighborhood is aware of its existence and uses it as a nearby alternative to A-1 Deli.

I'm fairly happy with A&P and Target, but would definitely appreciate a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or heck, even a Wegman's in the area.

Wegmans is a grocery store chain that many suburban yuppies tend to love, and a sizable chunk of the mainstream masses adore their stores as well. Believe it or not, their prices are quite competitive (especially on the normal supermarket kind of stuff). But they have all kinds of imported and high-end specialty items too.

Don't be freaked out though, they aren't planning on coming here. And, in my view, the new mega stores they're building in the suburbs would be a horrendous fit with Downtown Jersey City. They're truly massive, and while I like them just fine in a suburban setting (though they can be a bit overwhelming size-wise), they would absolutely have no business being in this immediate area.

It sounds as if their stores are SO not up your alley, but you can learn all about them at Wegmans.com if you're the least bit curious.

Thanks UR! I just did the reading. I am so glad that other people feel the same as me. Having a small one would be better than nothing at all, but if they are going to do it right, they would need to bring the WHOLE SHABANG!!! They would put every grocery store in the immediate area out of business. I can imagine the number of people that would come from NYC to shop at Wegman's. Hell, I wouldn't mind Wegman's being directly on the waterfront. They certainly deserve a place right there. And with a BIG ASS SIGN W E G M A N' S pointed directly at NYC.

Oh yes -- we all love Wegmans! But they have no plans for stores in Hudson County. At the moment, their focus is on building new stores in Maryland and Virginia.

JCList.com's very own Bill463 works for Wegmans and chats about it on here from time to time. If you're a fan of their stores, I believe their closest location to Jersey City is in Woodbridge (if I'm remembering correctly).

In an attempt to stay active in his retirement (and to make some extra cash), my dad works at one of their locations in Virginia. He loves working there and I always have a blast visiting him when he's on the job.

If you're interested in reading back through some of the lively conversations JCListers have had about Wegmans, just type their name in the search box on the top left corner of this page, hit the search button and read all about it. It may make for a good read.
