Monteleone?s is great. I picked up all of my holiday Italian cookies and pasties from there for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year?s Eve, and New Year?s Day not one complaint from party goer?s and (unfortunately for me) hardly any leftovers. Dreaming of some cannoli?s for the Super Bowl Sunday!!!
Yelp review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/monteleone-bakery-jersey-city Guess where the cannoli?s in this Liberty State Park scene from The Godfather were from? Yes that good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHzh0PvMWTI .

I got a bunch of stuff from Cocoa Bakery on Grand Street for Thanksgiving. Everyone enjoyed the goods so much, I will be placing another order for Christmas.

I agree, I tried them a few times and was underwhelmed by their product. The selection was very limited too.

Try Amish Market near the WTC PATH on W. B'Way and Murray. They usually have a decent selection of sweet baked goods.

Ort Farms is also at the Grove St Farmers Market. If you want to order for Christmas, they have order forms available. Last year I ordered a sugar free apple pie and I enjoyed it.

The farmer's market should be on today (they usually cancel on rainy days). If they are on, your best bet is to go to one of the stalls (I think it might be Stony Hill Farm). They are at the Grove Plaza today.
There's Sugartown as well (near the Brownstone Diner) which I think is closed on Mondays. For things other than pies, Carmen Rosa is hands down the best bakery in town. Extremely well priced and absolutely delish!

Monteleone's cakes and pastries are great. Their pies are average, but they're well priced.
I don't like VIP diner much, but they're baked goods are pretty good, and they make a tasty, really fluffy pumpkin pie. Their pies are usually available by the slice and whole, but I'd call ahead.

Don't know why everyone thinks Monteleone's is so good. Maybe back in the day. Carlos is average & over priced. I don't know how the baker at Metro ShopRite is but the one in Hoboken is very good & the one in Bayonne is VERY good.

Its not dtjc but at these prices it wouldn't be. Try Neptune Bakery in GV, they are now open 24 hours. Also Gale's sells pies and cake by the slice , I am sure they would be willing to sell a whole pie. During the holiday season she makes pumpkin, pecan, apple pies and red devil cakes mmmm mmmm. Both of these spots are right off the lightrail station, so no car needed.

I just got back from
Paulus Hook Farmers' Market (Stony Hill Farms) On Washington Street next to the Korean War Memorial and they have some pumpkin and pecan pies, plus the usual fruit pies. But they leave at 4 pm. http://www.stonyhillfarms.com/market/tailgate.php

Monteleone on Newark Ave, up by JSQ is pretty good, and they always have pies for holidays.

I don't think there is anywhere in the downtown area for the pies you're looking for. I also pick mine up at that Fairway location-- very convenient to the Path and excellent pies (in different sizes too).

Might need to call around to find what's available - most local bakeries bake to order.
Try Carmen Rosa's on Coles or Monteleone's on Newark - short walk from Journal Sq. Or perhaps Carlo's in Hoboken - you can order online and pickup.

I've never tried the frozen pies you find in supermarket, but maybe some are acceptable. Maybe whipped cream or ice cream would improve them too.

I need a couple of seasonal pies, i.e., pecan, pumpkin. Cocoa charges $32 for a 12" pie. Perhaps they're worth the high price to others since they bill themselves as gourmet. Anyway, I don't want to get into a discussion about Cocoa. I'm sure they're very good but their prices are too steep for me. Same with Choc-o-pain, though I don't think they carry pies.
What other bakeries are available in the vicinity of Liberty State Park extending to downtown? The Heights is too much of a hassle for car-less me. I need the pies today and I'm tempted to just go to the Little Pie Co. in Manhattan.
