United Water Co. officials have confirmed a water main break at Tonnelle and Manhattan avenues in Jersey City.

The break occurred between 5 and 6 a.m. this morning and will take six to eight hours to repair, said United Water spokesman Kevin O'Connor.

Ten families living on Manhattan Avenue are without water, he said.

Traffic is being diverted southbound on Tonnelle Avenue for about a block, O'Connor said.

O'Connor did not know what caused the six-inch diameter pipe to break and there is no boil water advisory in effect.

At 6:45 in the morn saw the FD open up hydrants on Kennedy as well as 139 near the Luke Oil..

Could be a break and was checking pressure

I live in PH also, but no brown water and nothing on United Water's website about a problem.

We also have brown water coming out of taps. We live in Paulus Hook. Is this a city wide problem?

Wake up to find brown water running from the taps, yet once again, no alerting to residents that I can find anywhere. What a joke.
