Garbage collection is never suspended for holidays. I have been here 25 years and I don't remember any occasion where it was except maybe Hurricane Sandy? But I was out of town for Sandy so I can't be sure. Besides, who wants to put their garbage out in a hurricane?

from City of Jersey City website:
All Municipal Offices Closed Thursday, November 27th & Friday, November 28th, in Observance of The Thanksgiving Holiday & The Friday After Thanksgving; Alternate Side Parking Will Be Suspended Regular trash pick-ups will continue as scheduled, but alternate side of the street parking will be suspended. Police and Fire Departments will remain open and on duty.

I was just told by the JCIA dispatch to leave your refuse on the street if it was your collection day last night...they will pick it up this afternoon. Recycle will be picked up tonight on the regular schedule.

Let the people fester among overflowing trash cans, but ain't no way the people get a break from our daily ticket revenue...

But it's still 37 degrees and certainly not sticking, 20% of my neighbors who didn't get the message about garbage collection still have theirs out at the curb and in another 1-2 hours we'll find out if the sweeper IS actually sweeping today...

Maybe they've actually smartened up and are going to use the streetsweeping/alternate side parking rules to facilitate efficient plowing?

While it is a bit lopsided here it is:
You can go to the city website and read the entire notice. http://www.cityofjerseycity.com My Neighbor's "Cliff Notes" version of it is as follows: For some reason the garbage is suspended but parking and street sweeping is not. Just like Jersey City to make decisions that are backwards. Really....with snow on the ground, why would you bother to sweep the streets and make people alternate side street park? We should start a betting pool on whether the sweepers will come if there's even one flake on the ground. If any of our Council Representatives monitor this forum I'm sure we'd all love to hear from them-
