Re: Journal Square: Armed men rob Canco worker's lunch truck
Home away from home
Home away from home

after being assaulted by someone last year, i was able to capture her getaway on my camera phone. even in the awe of having been hit, the first thing i did was grab the phone. i got her license plate dead on as she pulled away.

and the people at the truck on dey st are very nice and make a hell of a chicken cutlet sandwich. it flat out sucks that people can't run a business without fear of being robbed, beaten, or killed.

at 15 years old i hung out in pershing field almost daily, and i always knew to come home when it got dark out. really, shame on this kid and his parent(s) for allowing him to be out that late. my parents would never have allowed me or my brother to do something like that. it's bad enough i had to deal with the scum on my block always trying to steal my bikes and rollerblades.

unfortunately i'm in school almost all day from 8:30-6pm then at work all night (plus my cell phone's touch screen is broken so it's hard to dial numbers not in my phone book), if they haven't gotten it and anyone sees it, let bj's know there's one on the corner of marin and chris columbus. not sure if they got the one outside of the deli near the goody chinese restaurant yet.

haha i have lived on prospect off of palisade my whole life....

i would recommend the juliette condos as they are very beautiful, but if you read the jersey journal, i'm sure you've read about the stabbings in front of 38 prospect, on the corner of webster and prospect, the deli on webster getting robbed constantly, and all of that other fun stuff.

i love my block, it's like a really bad episode of cops sometimes.

Re: 9th & Marin crosswalk
Home away from home
Home away from home

i had someone assault me the same way on congress & webster, a lady was carelessly reversing her car at more than 15mph till the brakes screeched as i was making my way through the crosswalk (i had the right of way), almost hit me, then got out of the car and attacked me, scratching my face, and taking multiple swings. i ran into my job at the corkscrew for help, and got some of my regulars to hold her down. we took her plate # and she took off. i found out she was a friend of the tenants upstairs from the bar. i notified the owner that his tenants friend assaulted me outside of his building, also my place of work, and instead i got fired the next day. go figure. i should've pressed charges.

on another note... i've tried crossing at that crosswalk on 9th and manilla many times and people just fly through the stop sign on 9th, and fly through the flashing light on 8th by the firehouse. people are in a rush to get to the tunnel or the turnpike. the same things have happened on the witt-penn bridge with people speeding and carelessly driving, and it wasn't until multiple deaths occurred in a short period of time that something was done to help the situation. can't always blame the jcpd for not responding right away (though they sometimes have a knack for taking care of stupid things first), and if anything, the port authority police are right in that vicinity as well.

if anything, the jcpd was probably too busy writing tickets for handicapped parking at bj's and shop rite.

the problem with letting pedestrians pass in front of you when you have the green is that undoubtedly other peds see this as an OK to cross right behind them, and before you know it there are 20 people crossing and now you've missed the light . I see this happen all the time when i drive in Hoboken (which is daily). what i hate most is when the light has obviously been green for at least a few seconds and the peds still feel the need to cross while talking on the cell/playing with ipod, etc. in cases like these i almost never let them finish crossing or at least honk to make them aware that they're crossing against the light (but i agree if theyre already in the crosswalk then theres no point in honking).

ohh, i think i might have worded it wrong. if someone is *still* crossing as the light changes, i will gladly let them make it safely across, but i hate the fact that the second the light changes, someone is already honking a horn behind me. that's rude. i drive a manual and sometimes my first gear is a little hard to get into (clutch might be on the way out) so i just see something like that as people being in a constant rush to hit another stop sign or red light a few blocks down the way.

i plan on adopting a shelter/rescue dog this year and i've looked a lot into a raw diet, but didn't quite know where to start with ordering food. i'd love to join your group, even before adopting.

gotta love the people that honk from behind at me for letting a pedestrian cross in a crosswalk while i have the stop sign. i also love the people who honk as soon as the light turns green, also while someone is walking in the crosswalk. is it so bad to be a courteous driver?

when i ride the bike to njcu from the heights, i deal with the worst of the worst drivers trying to run me off the road. a lot of those types have no respect for pedestrians and others sharing the road. as not only a driver but a pedestrian/bicyclist at times, it makes me only more courteous and extra cautious. i think some drivers forget where they came from.

i hope they will pull people over for running stop signs and trying to "beat the pedestrian" through the crosswalk.

Re: Two schools, not supermart slated for Heights lot
Home away from home
Home away from home

i went to one of those city meetings back in 2006 when they were proposing the schools instead of the supermarket.

it was like a circus act. mr. michael yun (self proclaimed king of central avenue) came out in the middle of manzo's presentation like a ringleader with a projector screen and a full out 20 minute slideshow that not only wasted everyone's time but fumed the room of 100 people or so who were in support of the supermarket.

their claims were of more traffic based on the supermarket, more crime, more pollution (truck emissions) and other nonsense. i guess they forget about 7-9am when nobody can get past dickinson highschool, number 6 school, number 8 school, ps 27, ps 25, snyder high, and so on. if anything, i never have traffic issues at shop rite down town other than the holland tunnel traffic. those idling school busses seem to be a little more of a nuissance than a parked truck unloading produce any day. i've been nearly mugged many times outside of public schools (dickinson, ps 6, ps 8, even pershing field) as a kid, but never in front of a supermarket where there are usually hired private security and jcpd on site.

oh yea, mr. michael yun lives in nutley, nj where they have a wonderful shop rite and the great stop n shop of clifton commons a mere hop, skip, and a jump away from it all. i made sure to let everyone in that forum know that mr. yun is from nutley.

as for the schools, if they need them, so be it, but you can guarantee they are building those schools and cutting corners wherever possible. can anyone explain why the new middle school behind the firehouse already has nonworking air conditioners and other violations? that building is less than a few years old.

Re: Street Sweeping

since i work at night, i usually wait for the sweeper to pass by at 1pm, then put my car back out on the street. we also have surveillance cameras on the front of our house watching our cars. i've never seen the parking authority come by after the sweeper because we're an unzoned block in the heights, but i could easily see this happening downtown or near NJCU where the parking authority seems to be more money hungry.

pathmark on 440 has a quarter lock thing on their carts, you pay a quarter to unlock the cart, use it, then lock it back up to get your quarter back.... the only thing is 440 is a lot more desolate than downtown jersey city, so there's not much you can walk to other than society hill, and i highly doubt the people at the gate at society hill would allow a shopping cart through to just linger there.

Re: Where are all the BJ shopping carts coming from?

shopping carts cost the stores anywhere from $200-400 a piece...sometimes more if they have the electronic immobilizer. if people purchased those folding carts so that they could carry their groceries home in that in the event that they were car or cab-less, maybe the stores would be able to maintain an appropriate amount of carts (think marshalls on 440, we all know they are very low on carts.) also, there should be no need for bj's to have a truck going around to pick up carts. carts are for store use only, not a convenience for people to take home and leave them wherever they feel like. technically once the cart is off the premises it is considered stealing.

working as a bartender in jersey city, i have seen so many people make new friends on a daily basis. it's really something i enjoy seeing actually, and i don't think it will be hard at all. get involved with some of the local events. there are plenty of things to go to where you will meet like minded people.
