That's amazing. You'll have to share your route with me. Where are you leaving from? You no longer cut through Hoboken? It takes me about 15 minutes just to get through Hoboken alone.

Just take Paterson Plank Rd north and cut back over after you pass most of Hoboken (around 14th St).
From Hamilton Park takes me about 25 minutes.

Typical society response. I did something wrong, I think I'll blame someone else rather than admit I made a mistake, learn a lesson, and carry on with my life.

Look, its about time these laws get enforced. I hope they enforce all the parking rules. Its a bit too early to blame the mayor, yet get upset that the enforcement isn't consistent. Perhaps (and hopefully it will) be consistent moving forward.

It's almost impossible to cross streets when there are cars parked right to (and sometimes past) the stop signs. You can't see past them.

Now put some cops out and ticket the people rolling (and sometimes blowing) through stop signs on Erie, almost running over pedestrians on Manilla, parking in the middle of crosswalks, etc, etc.

But good luck with fighting that ticket.

I'm for calling cops on this one too. Is this against the law? If it isn't, it should be. Annoying as hell.

There's a lady that comes to HP every morning with her (what looks like a) German Shepherd off leash walking the perimeter. Half the time she walks on the outside of the fence while her dog walks on the inside.
What do you think she'll do if the dog poops halfway between entrances? You think she'll climb over the fence or walk all the way back to pick it up? I doubt it.
Or worse, what happens if the dog decides to take off after something? She's on the other side of the fence! Not much she can do at that point.
I know she'd say her dog is fine, but its just frustrating watching people everyday ignore the rules, especially when there are many responsible dog owners that always keep their dogs on leash or use the dog run for off-leash activities.

I agree where you're heading with this, but I'm not complaining about a loud tv next door, or someone walking on top of my ceiling at all hours. This is a party with music and people that can be heard at least a block away. The suburbs can have loud jerks as well.

And these parties do go on well past midnight. I originally posted this at 1:45am.
One of his parties last year I did call the cops at 3:00am after getting completely sick of it. The cops came, the noise stopped for the time the cops were there and then came right back on.

Its beyond having a good time. Its just rude to all of his neighbors.

I got one at Jersey and Christopher Columbus.
The video shows me clearly rolling through the light to turn right onto Jersey.
Luckily I actually did have a medical emergency, my wife was pregnant at the time, so I went to court to contest it.
They only let me off for that reason and I had to prove it.
So, yes make sure you stop at all red lights before you turn right.
Or make sure you have an emergency ;).

Am I the only one that gets annoyed by the crazy loud parties there? As of 1:45, the party's still going strong with people yelling and music blaring. I just feel like since I'm on 8th and can hear them like they're in my place (with ac and tv on) that people actually living next to them might be a bit pissed. They seem to have them quite regularly in the summer, sometimes on weekdays. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Can someone help explain this map a bit?

Is this mainly coastal flooding or storm surge flooding as well?

If it is storm surge flooding as well (which I assume it is), would this map be affected by the sewers being upgraded on 10th through 6th streets?

Have a lot of people flooded on the west side of Hamilton Park? I'm surprised to see it in the same color as some of the areas closer to the waterfront and exchange place.

What are you talking about?
You mean there wasn't a problem running around the park with the other 5 people running around the park? And the other 30 kids playing in the park?
Look, just like any urban area, you should be smart and probably not run by yourself at 3am, but all in all this park is very nice and safe. Stop acting like you somehow survived jogging through the really nice park in the morning while the rest of your lovely neighbors are out too.
You'll be fine.

I had two people come by my place on Hamilton Park but said they were with Verizon.
They caught me as I was walking in the door, so I talked with them a few minutes.
They kept wanting to come in to discuss how they could save us money over Comcast and I kept asking for a business card and would reach back out to them after speaking with my wife.
They didn't have business cards and said that Verizon sent them out to talk with people in person so they didn't need cards (made absolutely no sense).
Anyway I finally got rid of them and they said they would just stop by again later.

Re: Sound Proofing Company-Recommendations

Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I had the exact same scenario and did it myself.
If you aren't handy, do what bunny22 says and hire a good sheetrocker (really any good contractor).
These are the steps that I took:
1) Keep the initial sheetrocked wall up. If it's brick, you'll need to add a first layer of sheetrock.
2) Get Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound.
3) Get the thickest sheetrock sold at your local hardware store (typically 5/8"). I got the type X which is firecoded. You could do what bunny22 mentioned and get quietrock which will help, but most contractors don't want to deal with it because of how heavy it is.
4) Apply the Green Glue to the back of the sheetrock (go with the highest amount that they recommend).
5) Hang the sheetrock in the opposite direction that the first layer is hung. Typically the first layer is hung horizontally, so you would hang the second layer vertically. This is to avoid seams lining up and allowing some sound leakage.
6) Get Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant.
7) Seal seams between sheetrock and the top and bottom of the sheetrock.
8) Mud and sand as usual.
9) Paint

Give the Green Glue 30 days to set completely. At this point, you shouldn't hear your neighbor anymore (unless he just cranks his bass).

If you do hear some noise, make sure you didn't forget to use the sealant to fill around electric boxes and any other possible conduit for noise not covered by the Green Glue.

So basically the only part normal contractors aren't doing day to day is the Green Glue portion, which really is dead simple.

I won't argue the Secaucus ticket here. You have a point, although there was no other parking available at the time.

But the Jersey City one I was legally parked between parking signs that are clearly marked when I cannot park. It was not a sweeping day and I do have the proper permit.
I got a ticket for no standing or stopping.
I even asked a cop that happened to be in the area. She couldn't understand why I got it and told me to take a ton of pictures and fight it.

I personally think I should fight it. I hate that they can do things like this and people just pay it. But I do want to know what I'm up against.

So please only reply if you have actually fought a ticket so I know what is in store.

JC parking ticket court question
#53
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Has anyone gone to court in JC to fight a parking ticket?

I have one I want to fight, but want to make sure I know what I'm in for.

I recently went to Secaucus to fight a parking ticket, had proof that the meter was not expired, but out of order instead. I sit around for 3 hours, finally they call all parking tickets outside of the court, my number gets called and the prosecutor sees the proof and says that we'll need to schedule another court date because they don't call officers in for parking tickets and the officer would need to be there to plead not guilty. I thought I had already plead not guilty by scheduling this court date to begin with.

So I wasted part of a day at work and still had to pay the ticket (I wasn't going to leave work again for the ticket).

Any idea if this is the same way it goes in JC?

This seems to be the way to just get people frustrated and pay it so they don't have to deal with it.

Obviously some people do care about skateboarders (along with other kids of the city).

Cities that invest in their youth attract residents that invest in their city.

I'll be honest, I think when a city gets behind a skatepark it's more about focusing the energy of the skaters. Unfortunately skateboarders are seen as a nuisance to many companies and citizens because when there isn't a central area for them to skate, they'll skate everywhere.
I used to skate all the time, and in cities where there was a skatepark, the majority of skaters were there (when they weren't skating to/from there). In cities where there wasn't a skatepark, skaters would make do with any area to hang out and skate.

Most cities aren't overrun with young kids running around with their golf clubs hitting balls in front of businesses.

You have a toddler and you keep bringing up your frustration with getting ticketed for rolling through stop signs? Completely ridiculous.
My pregnant wife pushes our toddler around DTJC daily and can't even consider crossing a street when a car is coming down the road because 9 times out of 10 the car rolls through the stop sign. Which is obviously past the crosswalk.
It's a stop sign for a reason, not a yield sign.
Keep up the good work JCPD. We need even more of these tickets.

Everything I've ever heard about this guy's work is great:
http://www.martyandersonandassociates.com/

Problem is he's been known to be extremely hard to get in contact with.

I lucked out and he answered the phone the first time I called. He came out the date we scheduled, but then never gave me the estimate. I emailed and called him about 10 times over the course of 2 months with no response.

A friend of mine independently tried getting in touch with him to look at his stairs and he never answered or got back to him.

Again though, if you do happen to get him I've heard he's great.
Good luck!
