Congratulations Rich

I know you are not automatically installed in office, but here is something you may be able to help out on.

The Coptic church on Bergen is bursting to the seams on Sunday mornings. I've counted 50 some baby strollers parked on the side walk. When services let out there are 100+ people congregating on the sidewalk area and on the street. I fear that the mixture of 1. a ton of kids, 2. lots of cars stopping and picking people up and dropping them off 3. busy Bergen Ave; will lead to someone getting hit.

I'm not sure the best solution (cop to direct traffic, etc) but it is something that has bothered me for a while.

Anyway, onwards and upwards for Journal Square!

Although not connected directly to the Titanic, a fair number of owners are under water

it stinks that these kinds of payouts are written into contracts... but they are what they are

as a practical matter I wonder why Fulop did not say to the people retiring "so long, don't let the door hit you on the way out"

the Fulop fund raiser at the beer hall this week had 300-400 people, figure 10% of these people are just plain dumb... so there are 30-40 idiots running round supporting Fulop doing who knows what... realistically he is running a very clean campaign!

I disagree w/ Fulop on a range of issues but I am still enthusiastically supporting him in the up coming elections.

Not voting is a vote for Healy

"That's BS if it's done properly" - Do you trust Healy to do anything properly? Especially something as complicated and involved as a citywide property revaluation.

If the reval killed downtown (which is lost for Healy anyway) but helped the rest of the city, would the results be made public before or after the election?

re: teaching to the test
This is a honest no trolling question.
As I recall every single single thing I was taught in school ended up on a test. The early tests were simple recitations of facts like spelling and multiplication tables. Over time the tests increased in difficulty ultimately culminating with tests that included research papers and public presentations.

Why is "teaching to the test" a bad thing?

i have tried reading point 4 a few times.... what exactly happened?

4) WHEELING is someone who is prohibited from donating in this race then gives money to a different campaign account the same day who then sends the contribution to the account that would be restricted. Your reference here as actually ZERO to do with this premise of wheeling in Hudson County.

Bloomberg is trying to emulate classy food reviews that use the Michelin scale where 1 star is as high as a normal restaurant can expect to get.

from Wikipedia
One star indicates "very good cuisine in its category"; two stars represent "excellent cuisine, worth a detour"; and a rare three stars are awarded to restaurants offering "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey."

I disagree that "stop and frisk" is a bad idea.
Proactive policing means stopping people and asking what they are up to. Some percentage of people stopped will be frisked.

if the park can get 3.9 million spread it around, don't waste it on cosmetically improving the fountain.

The fountain is 100 years old, the 3.9 mm seems like a quote for a full (historically correct) rehab. JC does not have the money to waste on such a specific project. If there is a great demand to restore the fountain, get private money to do it.

Re: U.S. Army soldier from Jersey City killed in Afghanistan
#54
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

From President Obama's recent speech in Afghanistan

Tonight, I?d like to speak to you about this transition. But first, let us remember why we came here. It was here, in Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden established a safe-haven for his terrorist organization. It was here, in Afghanistan, where al Qaeda brought new recruits, trained them, and plotted acts of terror. It was here, from within these borders, that al Qaeda launched the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 innocent men, women and children.

And so, ten years ago, the United States and our allies went to war to make sure that al Qaeda could never again use this country to launch attacks against us. Despite initial success, for a number of reasons, this war has taken longer than most anticipated. In 2002, bin Laden and his lieutenants escaped across the border and established safe-havens in Pakistan. America spent nearly eight years fighting a different war in Iraq. And al Qaeda?s extremist allies within the Taliban have waged a brutal insurgency.

(...)

This future is only within reach because of our men and women in uniform. Time and again, they have answered the call to serve in distant and dangerous places. In an age when so many institutions have come up short, these Americans stood tall. They met their responsibilities to one another, and the flag they serve under. I just met with some of them, and told them that as Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder. In their faces, we see what is best in ourselves and our country.

Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, coast guardsmen and civilians in Afghanistan have done their duty. Now, we must summon that same sense of common purpose. We must give our veterans and military families the support they deserve, and the opportunities they have earned. And we must redouble our efforts to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice.

Raj
come on to JC list as let us know what is up.
You seem to have a crazy good resume for someone so young. I will forgive some youthful indiscretions if it means someone with some drive to make JC a better place to live is part of the city government.

Let me start with this question. What are three things you can do from a government point-of-view that would make life easier for small business owners in Jersey City.

I hope you respond.

on Thursday the 26th, 33rd to JSQ train at about 8:30 PM packed to the gills, Friday same train about 4:30 PM packed. This is the first car in the train which should the the least crowded.

I ride the path every day (for 10 years) and it seems to be reaching a breaking point.

The Hoboken trains are 50% full.

You might talk to the people who opened the Atomic Wings in DT JC, they are suing various JC agencies for not acting a business friendly manner. - I don't know what the status is of this...

http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... y-over-delays-in-opening/

Now the local franchisee, Randy Catlin, has sued Jersey City and construction code official Michael Razzoli, saying there was discrimination in the permitting process that allegedly led to delayed approvals, a delayed opening, and, ultimately, the restaurant?s failure.
