Re: BURGER EATERY on 1st & Erie
Home away from home
Home away from home

The guy two delis(MC Taste of Latin?) ago made a solid breakfast sandwich that I could get at 6am. That guy was a king among men.

This burger place was not open at 6am today.

Some day someone will capture the market of the working man that lives at the corner of 1st and Erie, but doesn't want to walk to Little Sandwich Shop, because he never parks that way, but also doesn't want to walk past his car to go to Gia's, unless he's taking the turnpike to work, but even still he doesn't want to have to do that weird turnaround maneuver on 3rd St to get a spot outside of Gia's, and even if he does get that spot it's really tense because it's no parking from 7-9, so it's a street sweeper gamble.
Some day.

Stop the #OOPS# presses, I have actual words to speak.

Stopped in for lunch. Wife and I both got Doubles and split a Boylan's. Double comes with American Cheese, Pickle, Tomato, Onion, and their house sauce(it's McD's special sauce[it's ketchup and mayo]). $20 without fries. Ouch.

Burger was tasty, but I'm gonna be real honest here... it was a bit overcooked(rabble rabble rabble!) and wasn't a knockout.

I'll go back because I believe everybody deserves two chances. I want to try some of the more unique burgers and the fries next time.

The place looks great, staff is super friendly, and I'm stoked to have an extremely local burger. I wish them the best, even if my so-so review isn't entirely helpful.

Go check it out for yourself!

I really hope this place succeeds. I myself will be stopping in on a regular basis, if only to meet my weekly french fry quota.

I was actually pretty stoked on the tree lights. hah

I know, right?

They're probably gonna put up a PNC Bank or something like they do everywhere else.
Who wants to drive drunk to the PNC Bank? Nobody, that's who.

Real shame what they're doing to the neighborhood.

Do they seriously sell poke bowls?

I ate like 100 of those when I was in Hawaii and have wanted 100 more ever since.

This could be the best/worst thing that ever happened to me and my bank account.

That's not how that works. They wouldn't have been there when the Diner was open, because they wouldn't have wanted to live there.

I'm not whining. Change is always changing. Pretty is great. Dirty is kind of also great.

Do they sell anything "shovel ready"?

Ceviche or whatnot?

I've been waiting so long for this!

At this point there's almost no way the burger can live up to how good I want it to be. hah

I'll be there Monday.

Very conflicted.

While I do enjoy pretty things and happy people, the new jerkoffs moving into Cast Iron Lofts of SoHo West will never appreciate what the Tunnel Diner and Burke's provided.
Pretty, sanitary little lives.
Let's go to the Target, honey. We need to get more kitty litter before we get back to sitting ignoring each other playing on our iphones.

Re: Would bars revitalize Ocean Avenue in Jersey City?

I drove the length of Ocean today while working. I don't know if a bar is going to do it..... ha

But for real though, on the southern end, the intersection of Ocean and Lembeck is where I'd start my restaurateuring. 4 good looking buildings anchoring that corner. Solidly built houses. Seems to be a lot of actual normal people living there. You could open a bar there and it probably wouldn't be the end of the world.

It's that Beiruity section between like Danforth and, well really the rest of it. That's gonna take some doing.

Hey how is O'Leary's by the way? I always mean to stop there, but I only ever remember when I've just passed it.

If you accept your minor amount of litter just because some collective of assholes somewhere else has a larger amount of litter, you will also end up with that amount of litter.

Best cure for litter, pick that shit up, man.

My older relatives used to boast that they had "the cleanesta street inna all of Broooook-a-leen."
Guy swept his block daily. Daily. That's like psychopathic levels of cleanliness in my eyes, but it's a solid reminder that if you want something done, do it. Others will be inspired, or at the very least, feel guilty enough that they won't throw their Starbucks cup in your bushes in front of you.

This stupid topic should be a sticky here. It gets brought up weekly.

What you posted details exactly what I said. "Not in every instance" certainly covers e.(2) does it not?

Also, I say again, if the law is stupid, why not change the stupid law?

ALSO, doesn't this stuff have to get approved? Did that happen or did they just throw signs up? If so, why? Who complained about the relative ease of parking on their street?

Exactly! Parking within 25 feet of an intersection is illegal. Quite likely the most ignored and abused regulation in JC.

Not so in every instance.

Also, if a law is stupid, why not change the law?

Favorite feature of the Gannon is the room on the right side of the building that houses the sprinkler pipes.... and nothing else. Check it out next time you're walking down first. The fuck goes on here?

100% agree with Fat Ass over here.

As a construction guy, I get to look at the new buildings with a bit more of a discerning eye than John Q. I gotta say, we're blighting out own neighborhoods with these new construction catastrophes. They're going to be our childrens' burden to bear.

Take a look at the "Gannon" over on first. Walk through one of the slapped together units they're trying to unload for 7 figures. Marvel at the unnecessary soffits, the uneven tile, the dozens of patches in the bathroom ceilings where the rockers went over the vents and played guess and patch trying to find them again.

You think it's going to stop at the surface? lol

Madam Claude's will always be the best restaurant in town. Brunch, dinner, whatever. They're the best.

Kitchen at Grove St. has some really cool stuff. Went there for the first time two weeks ago and had a great meal. Mod Cup coffee in house, delicious sandwiches, homemade donuts for a finishing move. Solid meal, comfy booths.

Re: Buying a house with asbestos shingles?
Home away from home
Home away from home

The exterior shingles really aren't bad to deal with. They're rock solid, so unlike the pipe insulation, they tend to come off the house in one piece, rather than a dusty plume, which is what is really harmful.

You're only going to incur an added cost of demolition if you actively seek out a company to do "proper" asbestos remediation. They're going to fleece you.
Any contractor bumping out your kitchen isn't going to care that the siding is asbestos. Siding is siding. Throw it in the dumpster.

Been wacky around here on Erie too.

I assume it's 100% related to all the street closures with PSEG and other projects.

Extremely annoying having to sit in your car for an extra 30 to 45 minutes waiting for the dog and pony show to moisten the street.

You guys all know that those zone permit things aren't even enforced, right? That would mean getting out of the Jerking Authority cart and reading the permit carefully. Not an efficient use of time.
I've met lifelong residents who didn't even know you needed the sticker. ha
