Doesn't this really mean cracking down on anyone that isn't "white"?

Are you inferring that only non-whites commit quality of life crimes?

And why did a downtown resident have to shoplift at a 99 cent store in the heights? What our 99 cent stores aren't good enough?

Talk about petty theives, this guy really hit bottom. What's the street value for a "hot" 99 cent store item? 25 cents? Is there a fence that specializes in stolen 99 cent store stuff? And dude, you're walking around with a big brown purse, unless you go the whole nine yards and wear the dress and makeup, the purse just might raise suspicion. And one more thing, even the 99 cent store guy ain't gonna be afraid of a guy carrying a purse.

Store owner holds suspect for the cops

Friday, June 15, 2007

What would a man be doing with a large purse in a "99 cent" store? Apparently robbing as many dollar items as he could fit into it, police said.

Carlos Arroyo, 39, of Sixth Street in Jersey City, was charged with shoplifting $60 worth of merchandise from 99 Cents Power on Central Avenue Wednesday, a police report said.

At about 2:40 p.m., employees spotted Arroyo holding a large brown purse filled with unpaid items, the report said. An employee told the store owner, Pravincha H. Shah, and Shah confronted Arroyo, the report said.

According to the report, Shah locked the front store door to prevent Arroyo from escaping. While opening the door for some customers to leave, Arroyo shoved Shah and attempted to run out the door, but Shah and his employees stopped him, the report said.

Arroyo also had six outstanding warrants, the report said.
