Interesting... just this morning, a DPW truck pulled up in our block and I watched as the entire operation unfolded: a heavy truck with a hydraulic lift in the back is used to lift the catch basin grate, and then the same machinery is used to retrieve all the garbage inside the catch basin. The entire effort lasted about 10 - 15 minutes with very little manual work required from the guys operating the truck and machinery. Even if the city had a single truck, which I doubt, six blocks should take no more than 2 hours. What a joke.

What does it really say about the Fulop Adminiatration when one patronage hire accounts for nearly a 4x daily increase in filling potholes??? I laughed my ass off when I read this article...not because this is business as usual in Jersey City, but because this guy had the audacity to say this:

Curtis said he is making sure potholes are filled, catch basins are cleaned out and street signs are in good condition. He told The Jersey Journal the DPW has gone from filling 22 potholes to as many as 99 a day now that he's been hired. Previously the DPW crews were cleaning out six blocks' worth of catch basins a day and now they're doing a whole ward in three days, Curtis said.
