A DIY way would be to open a brokerage account and trade oil and gas futures, and options on futures. Some brokerages like TD Ameritrade allow you simulate trading so you can try before you buy so to speak.

natural gas prices have gone up significantly since the beginning of the year, so the deals aren't as great as before.

If you lock in a rate, you will be paying a bit more than the current regulated rate you will get through PSE&G. Lock in if you think the rates will go up in the future.

looks like opec can not agree on prices. is there a way for me to lock some of my home heating costs for next 5 years
