At 2am you'd think there would be a level of courtesy on a quiet, dense, narrow residential block.

It's an 8 hour job 10 pm in the evening till 6 am in the morning.

That doesn't seem right. Somebody needs to look into that .
Recycling separation is done between different types of metal and plastics. Not trash.

Has anyone else seen this go on or am I missing something??

A lot of places just separate them after pickup (though if we're doing that I don't know why we have to separate them at the curb.) Still, at least your trash made it into the truck, they seem to like just dumping the trash onto the curb on my street.

Gotta give 'em a little slack, considering the road conditions? Plows were running full-bore...

Just asking; Are you scheduled for Friday night pickup? I've been in Ward E and Ward F for 27 years and pickup has always been Wed. and Sun. nights for trash.

As an aside, on our Thurs. night pickup for recyclables I did notice that the new company's trucks are a LOT quieter than the WM trucks...

Recycling was picked up at 11pm tonight. Pretty impressive, considering the weather (tho I see myself with a lot of recycling piled up in my future, as I'm not always home by 11).

Yeah, WM got progressively worse and worse. In December, after each pick up, our entire block was left with trash everywhere, and bottles in the gutters... i figured it was because they were pissed to be working at the holidays... either way... good riddance WM

Trash pickup was overnight in my area & I haven't seen the trucks but looks like all the trash was picked up in the area.

Wow. Your block must be blessed. I stumble over missed bags of trash and recycling on my street after nearly every pickup.

I should probably start a new thread on this, but to answer MDM's question about road salting, I can say that we see these "brine" trucks once in awhile Downtown, but it's usually rock salt after the storm. Here's the update:

Up on Steve's facebook page:

Steven Fulop
Snow storm info that is helpful for residents below. We will update on my twitter as well.

-JC OEM monitoring & prepping for snow storm Thurs into Fri. Some helpful info below

-We started to pre treat the roads earlier today

-Our OEM center is fully functional as of 8am tomorrow

-Street sweeping & Alternate Side Parking rules suspended until further notice.

-65 pieces of equipment - plows & spreaders - ready to deploy.

-80 people working the overnight & roadways pretreated today w/liquid salt brine & 2500 tons of salt ready to go

Did JC also change contracts or equipment with regards to salting the roads. Truck just went past my place spraying what I assume is brine on the streets. Never seen that done here. In the past it has always been the dump trucks full of rock salt.

Surely you jest. Waste Management was not very good. Half of what they were supposed to be picking up wound up in the street. That's when they did pick up.

Well, it looks like the new company missed picking up the paper and cardboard along the Southern part of Oakland Ave.

Or maybe they are just running very late.

Wasn't the JCIA way behind in their payments to Waste Management?

Yes, almost two years ago they were WAY behind. For reference:

http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... e-over-budgeting-process/

Not sure where they are on the bills as of now.

But I also hope the new guys are just as good at the curbside pickup. The Waste Management guys were pretty good about not busting trashcans, not spilling loads all over the street, and generally getting the trashcans back in front of the house they came from.

It's $800k saved, not that I expect to see that reflected in my next tax bill, but it's a start...

Jersey City will ring in 2014 with a new garbage hauler, a change the city says will save taxpayers nearly $800,000.

The Jersey City Incinerator Authority, an autonomous city agency that handles waste and recycling removal, has contracted with Elizabeth firm Regional Industries at a cost of $7.2 million.

Regional Industries provides waste removal services for Elizabeth, Hillside, Point Pleasant, Springfield and Union, according to its website.

Waste Management, which has hauled the city?s waste and recyclables for more than 10 years, bid $8 million to renew its contract with the JCIA, the city says. The two firms were the only two to bid on the contract, according to the city.

Regional Industries? contract is for one year only, according to Mayor Steve Fulop, who said in a statement that the city seeks to consolidate the JCIA and DPW next year. During his campaign for mayor earlier this year, Fulop pledged to fold agencies into city government, saying the move would lower costs and eliminate duplicative services.

The Elizabeth firm will begin hauling garbage and recyclables at 10 p.m. tomorrow.

Peter T. Roselle, the company's president, is a big donor to Democrats, including Fulop's predecessor, Jerramiah Healy, who received $500 from Roselle in 2009, according to campaign documents. Roselle contributed $2,500 this year to state Sen. Raymond J. Lesniak's primary campaign, the documents show.
