Jersey City police are looking for the robbers who struck a Bayonne man in the head and repeatedly stomped him while stealing his sneakers Wednesday night, officials said yesterday.

The 21-year-old said he was walking with a friend on Kennedy Boulevard near Orient Avenue just before 9 p.m. when he heard a group approach from behind, a police report says.

He said that before passing out he could remember being struck in the head with an unknown object and being beaten while on the ground as his Nike Airmax sneakers were taken, the report says. According to several retail websites, Airmax sneakers sell for from $70 to $130, depending on the model.

The victim?s friend had left the scene before police arrived, the report says. The Bayonne man was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, the report says.

Bayonne people are just dumb or slow, I see them night and day trying to score... Buy drugs in your own neighborhood and this type of $hit does not happen...
As a JC resident you should know Bayonne is full of teens and young men that recently moved there that still hang out in JC. Bayonne is full of people that were priced out of areas of JC looking for a cheaper apt in a better neighborhood. It is the same way their are a lot of people in Union City originally from the Heights.

While it is very likely he was robbed trying to buy drugs. It is also just as likely he was from JC hanging out with a friend and had a pair of sneakers another kid wanted. Their is no mention of a cellphone or money being stolen and in a drug robbery those are the first things stolen. Have you seen the prices of Nikes/Jordans now a days or how much they cost online for resale on ebay or sneaker sites once they sell out? Air Max Pillars go for as much as $180 Total Air Foamposite Max $225 and those are 2 examples. The Air Force Max (Barkley's) being released tomorrow is retailed $140 and already people that got it early are selling it for as much as $300-$500 on Ebay. So in my opinion being targeted just for his sneakers is not at all unlikely.

As a GV resident this area is known for drugs, From Myrtle ave, to Ege its hot over there. That little Audubon park on Kennedy is like Washington square park in the 80s mofos hustling weed to crystal meth... If you are over there especially in the evening you are trying to score.

in the dunkin donuts thread, you told me stereotyping was bad. #hypocrisy

Trust me I know how big of a drug area it is. I also know Orient is one of the most well known blocks for robberies. For all you know the victim is from Jackson ave and moved to Bayonne a year ago and got robbed shortly after getting off one of those dollar vans on The Blvd. I have dozens of friends that now live in Bayonne and all are originally from JC.

You are right a lot of Bayonne natives come here to cop drugs just like people from North Jersey, Central Jersey, Eastern Pa and NYC it is not exclusive to Bayonne. But obviously the victim isn't into hard drugs like heroin or he wouldn't be wearing expensive sneakers worth stealing. The biggest drug spots off Kennedy are towards Clinton/Lexington and Audobon Park which he is pretty far from both.

As far as Meth being big in Audobon Park don't count on it it's not considered a "hood drug" and is pretty rare in most of JC. The Filipino dealers towards the Westside control that market but they're not your average stand on the corner waiting for a sale type so they mostly go unnoticed.

Funny you should mention the thing about Bayonne people trying to score. Yeah something strange went on with the ?friend? taking off before the cops came. Don?t know if you saw the second piece in the link about the other Bayonne dude....

Smell of pot in his car: cops

A 23-year-old Bayonne man was arrested after police smelled ?raw marijuana? during a traffic stop Tuesday night, police reports said.

Anthony W. Rivera was pulled over because of the tinted windows on his Honda Accord, but during the stop officers detected the odor of raw marijuana and saw a clear plastic bag in the car, reports said.

Rivera was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
