A Georgia man was arrested yesterday and charged with murdering a retired Jersey City police officer who was found face down in his Jersey City home with an electrical cord around his neck on March 1, 2012, officials said today.
Anibal Cordero, 44, was arrested in Waynesboro, Ga., where he lives, on the charge of burglary and the murder and felony murder of former police officer Frank Goggan, 67, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino announced this afternoon. Cordero was taken into custody by officers of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by Hudson County Prosecutor's Office homicide detectives and Jersey City police detectives, who flew to Georgia to assist in the arrest. A Hudson County grand jury indicted Cordero on the charges on July 15. More

Jersey City councilman says investigators botching case of murdered former cop
By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal The investigation into the brutal, still unsolved murder of a former Jersey City cop found strangled in his home last year has been bungled, a City Council member said yesterday to the dismay of the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office. Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano, a retired police detective, said during a special council meeting that officials know who killed Frank E. Goggan but have yet to arrest the suspect. ?It?s a disgrace what?s gone on the last two years, and something must be done,? Boggiano said. ?If they don?t get a cop killer, what hope do you or I have?? He added, about county homicide investigators: ?They blew it.? READ MORE

Jersey City police groups offer $5,000 reward for help finding retired cop's killer
Published: Friday, March 30, 2012, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Jersey City police are offering a $5,000 reward for help finding the person who strangled a retired police officer in his Greenville home several weeks ago in what appears to have been a burglary turned violent, officials said yesterday. ?We are making progress, but we certainly can use anyone?s help who might have seen or heard or knows anything,? said Police Deputy Chief Robert Kilduff of the killing of Frank Goggan, 68, of Seaview Avenue. ?No piece of information is too small. Anything could help us.? On March 1, officers responded to Goggan?s home after concerned neighbors said they?d not seem him in a while, and they found him dead, face down in his living room with an electrical cord around his neck, officials said, adding that he also suffered trauma to his head and neck and had broken ribs. The officers found the front door open and it appeared the burglar or burglars had entered the home through a window, officials said. Goggan retired in 1994 and during his career he was awarded one Excellent Police Service Award and one commendation. The reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the homicide, Kilduff said. The money was donated by the Jersey City Police Foundation, Jersey City Detectives Benevolent Association, the Jersey City Police Supervisors Benevolent Association, the Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. The award is being administered through the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office. Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345. Frank Goggan
