Belford is in Middletown about 10 miles from GSP exit 117 (Route 36).

I used to take this ferry and then run to catch a connection to JC. You will still have to pull into Pier 11 and then wait for everyone to disembark before sailing over the Paulus Hook. The whole ride would take about an hour or so. Better than the train or driving, but at $605 a month it will not be for everyone.

NY Waterway adds Jersey-City stop (Paulus-Hook) to ferry route linking Monmouth County and Wall Street

Saturday, February 27, 2010

NY Waterway's first "Jersey to Jersey" ferry route will begin Monday.

The route will go from Belford in Monmouth County to Jersey City's Paulus Hook after a stop at Pier 11 in Manhattan, founder & CEO Arthur E. Imperatore said.

The new route, at roughly an hour from Belford to Jersey City, would cut the travel time for those now driving from Monmouth County, NY Waterway spokesman Pat Smith said.

"NY Waterway has a strong tradition of meeting the changing needs of our customers," Imperatore said in a statement.

"Our Monmouth County customers expressed the need to have service to Jersey City, and we were happy to accommodate them."

Smith said there will be six departures from Belford to Paulus Hook between 5:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. each weekday and eight departures from Paulus Hook between 2:40 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. each weekday afternoon/evening.

"Based on the success of other routes, we would expect this Belford-Paulus Hook service to support Jersey City's efforts to increase employment opportunities and to add to the attraction of the Monmouth County Bayshore as a desirable place to live, with minimal increase in auto traffic," Imperatore said.

More information can be found at NY Waterway's Web site.

Wait I'm confused. How does an hour-long ferry ride trim a Monmouth County to JC commuter's time in half? No way it takes 2 hours to drive from even the most southernmost area of Monmouth County to JC.

Also, if I was living in Monmouth County and commuting to JC, I wouldn't be thrilled that the boat stops in Manhattan first.

Anyway, it's cool to have an additional ferry service JC.
