Regarding this portion of the article:

The front of the building is the portion that collapsed (the 2nd street side where you see the JCFD looking at the building in the pic). A majority of the building had already been gutted over the last couple of weeks prior to the front/face of the building collapsing. Just in case anyone wondered

Building collapses in Downtown Jersey City

Almost nothing is left of two-story building on Second Street in Downtown Jersey City that suffered a partial collapse around noon on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, while undergoing renovations.

Almost nothing is left of a two-story building in Downtown Jersey City that suffered a partial collapse around noon today while undergoing renovations.

The entire roof and most of the exterior walls of the two-story building are gone, although it's not clear how much of the building was taken down intentionally by workers and how much came down of its own accord.

Firefighters responded to the building on Second Street off Colgate Street on a 12:18 p.m. alarm and quickly closed the block and called workers from Public Service Electric & Gas, Fire Director Armando Roman said.
