It actually came from computer hackers. If I crack the security on you computer and get admin or root privileges, I own your system. Been around since at least the early 90s.

Well I think it's brilliant, good publicity for the city of Newark. Good publicity attracts investors, industry, jobs etc.

While they have their obvious differences, they also have a lot in common. They are both mayors of cities that many believe are near impossible to govern, both of which are in the shadow of NYC. They are both strong advocates for gun control. Both were on the Obama bandwagon before it got crowded. But the main reason is probably that each of these men are pretty charming and engaging when you first meet them, so they probably charmed the hell out of each other when they first met.

I love Brick City. I finally got a chance to catch up with my DVR and saw the first episode last night. I thought the audio was also bad. I turned the subtitles on my tv on and solved the problem that way.

Well maybe Booker keeps Healy around for laughs, as Healy is quite a character. He sure and hell is not a good at being Mayor.

It's simple - Healy is a joke, while Booker is a hard working passionate Mayor.

From memory, it's in TV Entertainment, then Sundance Channel, which is on the 2nd screen. All 5 episodes were up as of mid-last week.

Prior to Brick City, I liked what I knew of the Cory Booker story. He seems like a committed public servant who has decided that Newark is where he will cut his teeth. So far, after watching the first three episodes, Brick City looks, feels, and sounds like nothing more than a very long Cory Booker ad. I know he did not film it or had creative control but this just seems like more proof that some people in hollywood have a hard-on for him and decided to do Brick City as a tribute to him.

To whomever is responsible for Brick City: get off Cory Booker's nuts and talk about/show Newark and the people who live and work there and are trying to bring it back. Talk about why Newark is the way it is. Some Newark history please. The show is entitled Brick City afterall, not Cory Booker City. And enough of the Bloods and Crips garbage. Especially disgusting was the funeral interplay between the funeral of a Blood who took his own life and police officer who was killed in the line of duty, leading a passive TV watcher to make comparisons or see similarities? VERY DISTURBING.

Brick City feels like a reality show and very long Cory Booker ad. I expected it to provide more context to explain much of what the characters express as "truths" as if they are the same for poor people in all urban centers. There are some interesting characters in Brick City and I think that the show would be more useful if it allowed these characters to develop, be more introspective, discuss the reasons they think their personal history reads the way it does and what motivates them to do the things they do, instead of spending so much time on "murders are down by X percent today", which means absolutely nothing when kids are being gunned down in the streets.

By raise of hands many of the boys in a classroom indicated they were being raised by single moms, show one that is doing a excellent job despite all the odds. Every single main character that is not on Cory Booker's staff/team or work for the city has a criminal record. Is that representative of the people that live in Brick City?

I hope the last two episodes will make me eat my words.

I luv the Brix, used to live there, spent a lot of my professional life there. There is no easy, or satisfying, way to tell this city's story. Every positive effort (arena, new housing) is met with more negative news (6 shot this week). Newarkers are rightfully annoyed that the media seem to always show up for murder/death/kill but Brick City deserves credit for taking 8 months to compile the story of a beautifully imperfect city and some of its beautifully imperfect people. Big finish tonight on Sundance. I defy you not to be moved.

I have not watched part two yet, but part one showed a Crip and a Blood couple attempting to put their lives in order while trying to prevent others from going down the wrong path, children being taken out of the city for some fun in the sun, companies announcing that they were relocating all or part of their businesses to Newark, and the police force succeeding (at least temporarily) in reducing murders in the city.

Yes, you are.

This show reminded me of the HBO series "The Wire", which was the best show ever. Right down to the CompStat meetings. I have a lot of admiration for Cory Booker. His passion and enthusiasm are impressive. But that only goes so far. Newark is an interesting work in progress. I believe what is good for Newark is good for New Jersey, so I am hoping for the best. Looking forward to the rest of the shows.

not trying to suggest anything against the Brick City mayor. I have respect for his intellect and sincerity, so far. (Two rarities in local politics) I've seen them in unguarded moments. Chummy. But Booker's a guy who will befriend the friendless. It's just an odd pair is all, aside from the political convenience.

Are you sure about that. I know Cory had to support him because of the HCDO. When Booker was at Grove street, I know a person that made a comment to him about supporting Healy and Booker's body language seemed uncomfortable as if I really do not want to be here doing this.

Not drinking the kool-aid, but he would be a hell of lot better than Healy.
