Re: Dan Levin in talks to run with Healy

Just can't stay away

It's funny how some hard-bitten urbanites like JC list regulars can suddenly become virgins when confronted with a political reality check. Does anyone who really knows Dan Levin honestly think that he'd become a corrupt rubber stamp for Healy just because they run on the same ticket? I mean, really? Dan Levin? Handing out PILOTs to developer buddies and taking manila envelopes at local diners? C'mon.

great idea. in addition to the bi-weekly popcorn theater that would provide, let's get some journalists in there and create a nightly newscast (he said, waving his resume in his right hand.)

not sure what it is that attracted you to this city on the first place. this is the crumbling concrete, dirty politician, high tax, shoddy workmanship capitol of New Jersey. obviously you're not getting the joke ...

so, what does "outside the existing political system" mean again?

and, are you saying that councilman fulop has no "friends working for the city/county, nor as past elected or past/present appointed officials or having served on past/present municipal /board/commission/authorities"? i wonder id he would dispute that?

I also would not recommend screaming at people in the streets. The angry should all take a step back from their collective fury and realize that the people who work for city departments are not the same as the people on the city council.
(and you might get punched in the face.)

who determines what "outside the existing political system" means?

and won't halting of all permits and approvals for new construction, development, and redevelopment until proper safeguards are in place hurt a lot of construction workers?
isn't there a less severe approach?

There's also the question of municipal runoffs, quite common in JC. Will we then be holding runoff elections right after Thanksgiving? or in early December? How's the turnout for that gonna be. Mayor Healy made that point in an interview on blogcityblog.com (in case you wanna take a listen).

oh, there was plenty yucking going on. surprised you would say otherwise. nothing wrong with their yucking (although, a skillet to the head is always comedy gold), it was just interesting, considering the vehemence of the councilman's past rhetoric.

(don't know if you're referring to my post about the great food)

The news story doesn't say that owners of the restaurant were arrested. does it? No sympathy for drug dealers here, although I will have to claim to having a little for Mark Medal (his weakness, not his stupidity).

I also don't see the connection between "cops as customers" and the Wayne Street drug mart. Only one (suspended) JC cop was arrested, and he was last stationed at the courthouse, more than a mile away.

Let's just see who else gets rounded up and charged before we break out the broad brushes.

on the other hand, if the incumbent political organization is well-funded and otherwise politically strong, they would welcome a quick election, whereas righteous citizens who might not have a strong political organization would probably welcome a year to get organized. it does seem outrageous though that the seat(s) could go empty for a year. would that we could trust our elected officials to have the wisdom to appoint an apolitical caretaker until an election could be held...

i think the crowd was closer to 65 than 30, but i agree that, upon closer inspection, the Daggett rap is well practiced and quite calculated. He was appointed to DEP spots by Tom Kean, Sr. and Jon Corzine in the past.
