According to the Star Ledger article, Pete McAleer, a spokesman for Comptroller Matthew Boxer, indicated that "additional review [of development contracts] will take place in Hoboken, Secaucus and Jersey City".

No timetable given, but if I were Healy or someone from his crew, that would make me very, very nervous because in addition to the FBI, now the State Comptroller is digging with nothing but an upside to revealing all of your dirty laundry should they find any.

This is getting interesting.

They really should not be relieved because the moment Healy gets arrested, and he will, the corzine (public corruption) screw starts.

'MUCH RELIEVED' -- Corz order not aimed at Jersey City

Tuesday, August 04, 2009
By AMY SARA CLARK
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Hudson County officials breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when they learned Gov. Jon Corzine's executive order suspending approvals for developments didn't apply to them.

Aimed at forcing Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez to quit his post, Corzine signed an executive order yesterday freezing approvals for developments in towns and cities where mayors have been charged with corruption but refuse to resign.

Nearly two dozen Hudson County officials - including former mayors Peter Cammarano of Hoboken and Dennis Elwell of Secaucus - were arrested on corruption charges July 23.

But while maintaining their innocence, both Hudson County mayors arrested in the sting operation that netted 44 people on extortion and money laundering charges have resigned their offices.

Suarez, accused of accepting a $10,000 bribe from a government informant in exchange for supporting a development project, is refusing to quit.

But when Corzine's executive order was first reported, it sounded as if it would apply to all the municipalities where officials were arrested. In Jersey City, nine employees and officials, including City Council President Mariano Vega Jr. and Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini were arrested as part of Operation Bid Rig.

"We're very much relieved," said Robert Antonicello, executive director of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency.

If applied to Jersey City, the executive order would be "catastrophic," Antonicello said.

"It would slow down everything we're doing," Antonicello said. "It would be counterproductive to the governor's goal of producing affordable housing and the remediation of brownfields."

The executive order only applies to municipalities where "the sitting mayor has been charged with a public corruption crime." Corzine spokesman Robert Corrales said the order will apply to any municipalities where a mayor is arrested in the future.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy is not charged with a crime. But he has admitted to being "JC Official 4" in the federal criminal complaint against Beldini, Hudson County Affirmative Action Officer Ed Cheatam and the late Jack Shaw. "JC Official 4" met with the FBI operative at least twice and his campaign allegedly received money from the informant, according to the complaint.
