HEY! My Pinto is just as deserving of a garage as any Beemer or Volvo.

Yeah, let's blame the basketball players... or maybe they were going to the St Francis ER, only to find it was gone. I personnally think they were shopping for Vespas and decided to case the neighborhood. That 2 grand could make a nice down payment on a scooter.
It couldn't be that Hamilton Park is easy access from the Turnpike and Holland Tunnel, is known to be somewhat afluent, and has $60,000 cars parked on the street.
Not that they deserved to get robbed, but it used to be that if you could afford that type of car, you parked it in a garage. You parked your Pinto on the street.
Good job by the Police...this time.

Nab 2 in Hamilton Park car burglary

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Jersey City cops charged two Essex County men with weapons offenses and burglary to a vehicle early yesterday after the pair returned to the car they allegedly ransacked to turn off the car's flashers and wipers, officials said.

Jakal Dennis, 19, of Newark, and convicted felon Jermaine Agosto, 20, of Irvington, were arrested shortly after midnight near Hamilton Park and charged with additional offenses, including aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding police, resisting arrest, and drug possession, reports said.

Officers on patrol near the park spotted a burglarized Audi on Erie Street with its windows down, flashers on and wipers going, and went to the Sixth Street residence of the owner to notify him, reports said.

When the officers returned to the car, they noticed the lights and wipers off and saw Agosto and Dennis in a parked Subaru blocking a driveway across the street, reports said.

When the cops walked over, Agosto put the car in reverse and hit the gas, nearly hitting the officers before slamming into a parked SUV, reports said. The pair then jumped out of the Subaru and ran but were caught with help from back-up officers, reports said.

Inside the Subaru police found a loaded .357 magnum and items taken from the Audi valued at about $2,000, reports said. The officers also found the Subaru's ignition had been tampered with, but a check revealed it was not reported stolen, reports said.

Agosto was in prison from March 14, 2003 to July 21, 2003 and Nov. 26, 2003 to April 9, 2008 for robbery, a weapons offense, two counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of burglary, state corrections officials said.

When arrested yesterday, he was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, official said.
