My son was also offered a full ride at St. Peters but chose McNair as he was "sick of Catholic schools".
A lot of kids who attend St. Peters Prep are from out of town and of the same mindset as yourself. 95% of McNair kids are are local. Prep is is more of a liberal-arts type of institution where you study Latin as opposed to McNair where they stress math/science. It depends on what you believe to be a superior education.

> a bit more exclusive
You select your school based on exclusivity? Like a cool nightclub? Robin.

Did not see any other Prep related topics.
McNair was and is an option as well, but from other info received Prep would be a bit more exclusive and generally better - cost not playing any factor in that. Quote:

That was assumed. But it depends on your kid, his sports, his grades & scores, his aspirations, and yours. As related in previous Prep threads ( you read them right?) my son was given a full scholarship there and went to McNair instead for a superior academic experience. But students love the Prep experience, its sports programs and it's alumni network.

Prep is an excellent school. Every young man I know who went there speaks highly of it. And as private schools go, it's not expensive. Do realize though that $15K is just the beginning. So evaluate whether you can take $70K out of your college cache for high school. What are the alternatives for your son?

I graduated in '86, and have instant fellowship with almost every other alum I meet. The academic and disciplinary standards are high, and it turns boys into thoughtful men.
They do a summer program called HAP that is attended at the end of 7th grade. It's a good way to try out the school. Most of the instructors are teachers from the school, and I remember seeing 80%+ of the attendees from my summer start as freshmen the following year.

Was chatting with an alum, albeit a grad from 12 years ago, who spoke very highly of the place. Thinks it churned out, and still churns out, great thoughtful human beings. As an engineer, he faulted the quality of their computer instructions, but that was well over a decade ago. He couldn't vouch for their current hardware situation. Given private school prices in DTJC, and considering the size and quality of their campus and athletic programs, I'd say it's a relative bargain.
