That's the Jersey City cowboy. I see him every now and then on Jersey Ave. etc. Sometimes, with a cohort. Word has it he was a horse trainer for police horses. Where he "parks" them, I have no idea. I've seen the horse tied outside the Hamilton Park Ale House a few times.

I don't know its exact location. Its by 185, caven point rd & linden ave. on the JC Bayonne Border. I knew a couple of people who kept their horses there. It was a private stable on a large companies property.

A few months ago, I was driving around near the shipyards in Bayonne and drove past a guy in a cowboy hat riding a light grey horse. Seemed odd to me, especially because it was around 11pm and the entire area was deserted.

About a week or two later, I saw a guy tacking up a grey horse right out in front of the Hamilton Park Ale House. I stopped to say hello and asked if that was him I saw in Bayonne, and he said that yes, that was him and he keeps the horse somewhere over by the shipyard.

So there's at least one guy who stables a horse in Bayonne and rides in downtown JC. Maybe there are others...

Mostly likely they came from the stables down by caven point.

They used come thru LSP and stop the a bar at Jersey and Grand, tie the horses on the fence then get a drink inside.

They probably were not cops.What they do is drive from wherever and park their trailer in the hoboken lot.Then its a short walk to liberty state park.

There is no law against riding a horse in Jersey City, but you can't park the trailer in the park.Not every horse will ride in traffic either.Those may have been retired NYC horses.

Yeah actually I kind of agree with you - I like it too, it was so cool to come across it right there in front of Bubby's... the only thing is, they didn't look official (I didn't think I saw uniforms, but who knows...)

When i was a kid they still had police on horseback in JC.The sound they made late at night on the pavement was very cool.
They say that a cop on horseback has the best visability as he is high up and the horse is very intensely aware of his surroundings.NYC and Newark still have cops on horseback.

I know this is f___up but i like the smell of horsesheet.I wish we still had them here.Not counting the horse's ass running City Hall.

So I'm walking home a few nights ago, Jersey and Varick, 8:00 PM - right up there on the list of unexpected things to see would be 2 white horses being ridden up the street - but there they were, coming back from Liberty State Park at the end of Jersey I guess. That was kid of picturesque.


Then today I'm riding my bike to the park to enjoy the comfortably globally-warmed December weather, and on the foot bridge over that little canal/industrial swamp thing, were several mounds of horse-sheet. Less picturesque. (not that the pristine natural beauty of that foot bridge was ruined or anything).



So 2 questions:

who's got horses in downtown JC? (now *there's* some gentrification for ya)

if you happen to know them, could you ask them to buy a large pooperscooper?
