Whats Melt?

For any fellow Food Network nerds out there, there was an episode of "Boy Meets Grill" on Cuban food where Bobby Flay was in town and went to La Nueva Isla and Hard Grove, and the camera followed him walking on Grove St. between places. And of course didn't "Roker on the Road" go to Melt a couple years back?

Just remembered I've also seen Diane Neal from Law and Order:SVU(the redhead/blonde DA) in the Hard Grove Cafe and read in an article once that she lives in Jersey City.

Also saw Ed Helms from the Daily Show get off the PATH once, but he was wandering around the Grove St. "park" area on a cell phone looking lost so I doubt he's actually a resident.

Years ago I heard a rumor that Naomi Campbell owned one of the brownstones on Hamilton Park. Then a year or two later, I heard a rumor that she sold it. Either way, I never spotted her either.

Yeah, that would be Janet - minister at Grace Church Van Vorst (the hippest church in town).

Years ago I saw Queen Latifah in the Shop Rite. I'm told she has family in the area.

I am pretty sure that Patrice O'Neill the host of VH1's Web Junk 20 and frequent guest on the Opie and Anthony Show lives in Jersey City. I believe he has mentioned that a couple of times on the show.

The great pianist/composer Andrew Hill lives on 8th, west of Coles. I've seen him around, still reasonably spry at about 80. Not that he's a celebrity but he damn well should be.

I occasionally saw Beetlejuice, the obnoxious microcephalic dwarf from the Howard Stern Show around the Heights and Marion. Does he count as celebrity? Not seen for a couple of years now, I think he's gone Hollywood.

The guys from Pavement were rooming with David Berman from the Silver Jews in Jersey City. There's even a version of the "Rattled by the Rush" video on their Slow Century DVD that was filmed in the Pavonia/Newport PATH station.

Stephen Malkmus (lead singer) and David Berman were working at the Whitney Museum in NYC as security guards while they lived in Jersey City. Either Mark Ibold or Scott Kanneberg drove a bus too(not sure if it was a Jersey bus or NYC bus).

There's more about them in Jersey City on the DVD and in the "Perfect Sound Forever" book about Pavement. They talk about how crazy Jersey City was and how sketchy it was to live there. Not sure if they were in the Grove area, JSQ area or Pavonia area but it was in the late 80's/early 90's.

Anyone know the history of Pavement (the band) in Jersey City? Apparently they were living here while they recorded 'slanted and enchanted.'

yeah kyan used to live at the corner of jersey and newark and id see him walking to the path as well but he now lives in brooklyn in my coworker's building (why do i know this much about a queer eye cast member - i must immediately evaluate how i've spent my time) its sad this is the only celebrity sighting we can muster here....

I used to see Kyan from "Queer Eye" around all the time but not sure he still lives here, or if he really counts as a celebrity. I think the best celebrity in JC is "THA PIMP!" But he has his own thread.
