A better question is what does the county govt actually do besides the police, county high schools and maintaining their roads. I've heard tales of how patronage jobs are handed out like candy to reward the connected and faithful. It truly sounded a lot like the JCPD off duty schemes.

Freeholders are elected officials that administer county government much the same city council members do the same for municipal government.

What exactly does a freeholder do? (Besides make our taxes higher?) Too many layers of government - enough already!

Freeholders? More like freeloaders. I wonder how many of these hacks have one or two more "no show" government jobs. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the answer is all nine of them.

What are you paying your county freeholders? (Some gave themselves raises for 2018)

By Bill Gallo Jr. | Posted January 21, 2019 at 10:30 AM

All of those taxes we pay in New Jersey! Where does all that money go?
On the county level most of it goes to pay the salaries of county employees whether it be in public works or the prosecutor?s office.

Those county taxes you pay also go to pay elected county representatives, your freeholders.

Quote:

1. Hudson County

Population: 691,643

Hudson County is governed by a nine-member freeholder board.

Freeholder chairman: $47,943

Freeholder vice chairman: $46,898

Other freeholders: $44,807

The 2018 salaries are an increase over what freeholders were paid in 2017: Chairman, $46,774; vice chairman, $45,754 and other freeholders, $43,714.
