I am super glad to see JC doing well. After almost 12 years here, I am still a happy resident and would love for the city to continue to do well, but fair is fair, and the JC of today is undoubtedly riding a gravy train and being smug about it. It was only a matter of time before this all happened. Only those in denial, or the ones completely indifferent, were unable to see it.

It came really close, but New Jersey won't shut down for the second year in a row.

Gov. Phil Murphy and fellow Democrats who control the state Legislature reached a state budget deal Saturday evening, capping more than four months of drama, according to two sources familiar with the talks.

Murphy will hold a joint news conference with Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin at 7:30 p.m.

If state lawmakers and Gov. Phil Murphy can't come to an agreement on a new state budget by midnight Saturday, you'll still be able to play the lottery, but you won't be going to Liberty State Park.

The looming shutdown would keep all non-essential state workers home, but since the revenue from the lottery is deemed essential the games will go on. But Liberty State Park on the Jersey City waterfront, the state's most visited park, would be closed.

Come Monday, the most noticeable closure would be the Motor Vehicle Commission offices and vehicle inspection stations in Hudson County. Unemployment services will be open, but the One Stop Career Center will be closed.
