That last line is THE TRUTH. The folks at the MVC endure a TON of abuse from the public. They don't make up the rules, but they have to enforce them, and people unleash on them over required paperwork and other details. While, in theory, they should be courteous and friendly to all customers, I can see why they can also be curt and short at times. If you had to deal with the public all day, and be on the receiving end of expletives or rants, I am sure it would take a toll. A smile and a courtesy, a simple willingness to engage with them in a friendly manner, is likely to net you a better interaction.

Agreed - and they have parking if you're driving. To the OP - hold your nose and get your issue solved in person. It's the NJDMV - you don't want to deal with the larger issue if your docs expire or become invalid. Good luck and keep us updated!

My experiences at the various MVC has been fine, as long as you don't need to be tested on anything. Then you're fucked, those are the endless lines. My son had to wait 2 hrs at the Bayonne MVC just to get his eyes tested, as he'd already taken the written test at school. They had one line whether you were taking a written test or whatever.

Your past experience with MVC is unfortunate. I would encourage you to visit a different location. The location on Summit Ave is very efficient and I have never had an issue there, and I go at least two or three times per year. The one time I visited the huge location close to Paramus was chaotic, but it was the closest one that could handle/accommodate a motorcycle road test, so I had to go there. Definitely give the Summit Avenue a try, if you haven't.

you need to call MVC. It's highly unlikely that anyone here is going to be able to tell you why you got his notice or what you need to do to resolve. You can't very well say you didn't renew your license because JC List said not to bother.

I had a letter through the door from the MVC saying that my license is due to expire on 31st August 2018, and that I must go to the MVC to renew.

Thing is, I only passed my test and received my (probationary) license 2 weeks ago, and according to the license itself, isn't due to expire until May 2019.

Is this some bug introduced by the system downtimes? Does this happen often?

I'd rather not go, spending time at the MVC is straight up the worst experience I've had in this country since moving here. I'd rather be groped by the TSA 10 times over than spend an hour with that happy bunch.
